Hi, well I render in vue which makes a depth map, and I have purchased that photoshop plug in. I use it on my PC as it's not mac compatible. It works very well. Love esther
I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!
Could save time, blajfeld, if in rendering a massive animation, the primary render would be speeded up tremendously by not having to calculate DOF. Then, you process your folder of frames for DOF using the plug-in. Also, you might "change your mind" about the intensity of DOF in one portion of your film. You would still have the raw frames un-DOFed to go back to, and you could then reprocess for DOF just for that segment, without having to re-render the full scene. Same with a single frame. Much faster to try out different DOF effects in this plugin than to rerender entire scene with different Poser DOF settings. ::::: Opera :::::

You can render depth maps using the depth cue effect. Thanks for the link! I've been using depth maps for post DOF a few times, but without plugin support (just select by color on the depth map, then blur), so it ended up rather crude. Unfortunately, I don't use Photoshop. Does anyone know if there's a standalone program or Gimp plugin that does the same?

I've been looking at the plug-in Depth of Field Generator Pro, (see link above) which batch processes animation frames to add DOF blur, saving render time on the raw frame. It's also great and appropriate for single frame renders. The combination of AO or IBL and DOF can produce way-cool look and feel.
The author says:
"Most 3D Computer Graphics applications are easily capable of producing depth maps along with the rendered image."
The depth map is a black/white bitmap of the frame, in which the grayscale value of a given pixel translates mathematically to the distance from the camera.
Thanks,
