Subject: Poser 100 - Wishlist

Francemi ( ) posted Thu, 06 October 2005 at 1:42 PM · edited Wed, 20 November 2024 at 2:25 AM

Poser 100? Well, I have to be realistic... I would like to see the day we could put ALL the files pertaining to one model and accessories in one single folder and that Poser would find it without problems. Let's say we have Victoria 10 (if it's Poser 100...): We'd have one folder for Victoria and that folder would contain: object textures reflection maps (if any) and ALL Poser files: cr2,pz2, pp2, etc. and the templates in a subfolder. Wouldn't that be nice?

Maybe even two levels of undo - wouldn't that be nice?

Francemi ( ) posted Thu, 06 October 2005 at 1:58 PM

hum... since we're talking of Poser in 94 versions from now, I'd say you could ask for 10 undo levels? ;o)

a 1 level undo when you accidentally delete a character would be nice!! could probably come up with loads of stuff that could be improved, but if version 7 isn't a lot faster and less 'crashy', I'll wait out for version 100 myself

diolma ( ) posted Thu, 06 October 2005 at 3:49 PM

How about folders that could contain shortcuts (links)? Then you could set them up as you wished (or leave them to the default) The ability to move individual verts (instead of using magnets)? A total re-write of the base code so that it dropped all the legacy stuff? The ability to change the default scale of the meshes supplied to something that other apps can cope with? Free upgrades from version 6 - 100? :-)) Cheers, Diolma (I could go on, and on, and....) But for some strange reason, I still LOVE poser (Hugs)

I can't wait that long..... :) lol Actually since I've just figured it out I will be looking at remapping the user Interface over the coming weeks to make it a bit more visible for me. Stay tuned on that one.... :)

How about folders that could contain shortcuts (links)? Then you could set them up as you wished (or leave them to the default) That's how i've set up my Runtime it contains only shortcuts... P5/P6 can follow shortcuts without a problem (at least the windows version).

diolma ( ) posted Thu, 06 October 2005 at 4:53 PM

Good Grief - Thx, Dizzi! I didn't know that! THAT will make a great difference to how I set up my libraries (if only I can get time/inclination to do it..) Maybe slowly, over the next few weeks/months/years.. (Yes, I'm on Win2K) Cheers, Diolma

Dizzi ( ) posted Thu, 06 October 2005 at 5:14 PM

It works for the library at least, but probably not the references... (I'm moving all textures and geometries to the standard locations and don't feel like testing that ;-)) You should have those beneath an "/runtime/" folder of an actual runtime Poser knows otherwise poser won't find the files (or search for years...).

Francemi ( ) posted Thu, 06 October 2005 at 7:11 PM

Dizzi, could you show us a screenshot of a folder where you use shortcuts please? I'm not sure I understand what you are doing exactly. Thanks.

I had been using Dizzi's approach for about a year. I works great, especially if you use CR Pro on each library changing the relative file references to absolute. Then there's no need to move anything. However, I've been using "Poser Remote Proceedure Call" (at the link) with P3DO for the last couple of months.

I have P3DO and the 2 python plugins but sadly, I really don't understand how it works. There is no instructions in French and that kind of terminology, I'm so unfamiliar with that I don't understand correctly in English. ;o(

Francemi, It's not too difficult. If I knew French, I'd translate it for you. Maybe someone here can help.

Dizzi, do you know if using alias/shortcuts in a rubtime permits it to load faster... can't check right now. Also the issue for me is my desire to put different file types in one folder... I have so many rooms where the static walls are .pp2 and the door and window walls are .cr2 - I hate looking in characters and props folders to load the complete scene and then go to pose folder for the MAts and then to lights. I have fixed some of this by changing suffixes but I wish there was a better way.

Dizzi ( ) posted Thu, 06 October 2005 at 10:11 PM

No shortcuts don't cut down the startup time. And if you put stuff in the same folder, you'll still have to browse to the same folder from props and from figures as poser only displays the appropriate file type for that folder.
Having said that, you can use above mentioned PRPC to load stuff into P5/P6 using Python and either P3DO or my tool.

To get back on topic a bit: I'd like Poser to have an interface for external library browsers :-)

PabloS ( ) posted Thu, 06 October 2005 at 10:22 PM

Hey Dizzi, that looks like a worthwhile tool. I'll be checking it out! :-)

Come to think of it, if they have to get to version 100, they'll probably change the name of the program along the way. loll

Francemi, here's for you : howto prpc in french. Tr bient. Yarp

Wishful thinking my lads. At one version every say, two years, by the tiume 100 is reached, we will al be burning in hell for having visited indecent sites like Rendero. Tortured forever by NIATVAS and with an infinite number of undos. (ahhh...so you played plastic surgeon...now it's my turn...)

I would like to be able to save poser figures to anywhere i like, and not have to use the Lame Library, and just use the standard OPEN box. Also, a particle engien would be great (the Poser Particles plugin doesnt work too great)

thefixer ( ) posted Fri, 07 October 2005 at 7:36 AM

I'd be happy if it just worked properly straight out of the box!!!!

thefixer... do you mean you still have problems with Poser6? Mine works perfectly and has been working fine since I installed SR1. I really love Poser 6 as is and this topic was just for fun, asking for things I don't really think will be implemented in my lifetime. ;o)

thefixer ( ) posted Fri, 07 October 2005 at 9:54 AM

@ Francemi, the short answer is yes I do still have some issues with it even after SR1 and I know I'm not alone in that. Not big issues like before but I do still get occasional memory outages and if I try anything with AO, raytraced shadows, IBL etc. at the same time it just tells me to F**k off if you know what I mean!!!

Wow - Poser 100? Yeah, why think small? I think the 3D holographic thing is more on target!

My wish list would be:
Character voice synthesis. (Code borrowed from Mimic 20) Feed it a text file with your script, and the character recites it (with perfect inflection and gestures, thanks to AI) in a natural sounding human voice you can tweak to your heart's content.

Photo to Character - Using the latest version of the morphable model synthesis technology, you can take a blurry old snapshot of someone, or even B/W surveillance video, import it into Poser 100, and have it instantly converted to a fully-morphed character with high-res textures.

(Unfortunately, the ability to simultaneously create conforming clothing models from the same picture will not be found in Poser 100, but only in DAZ Studio 75. Much to everyone's consternation, the two file formats will still not be compatible. In fact, due to escalating hostilities between the two camps, attempting to import files from one program to the other actually sets your computer on fire.)

Director mode (Added when e-Frontier buys NatrualMotion and adds the Endorphin v8.5 code to Poser) - In director mode, you use a microphone to tell the virtual actors what to do and they do it! "Now Vicky #3, drop your armor to the floor and go pull that sword out of the stone. Right - can you wiggle a little more as you cross the temple foor? Perfect!"

Advanced Content Subsidizing - Once you have crafted the perfect 3D figure, it no longer just sits on your hard drive waiting to be rendered. It actually goes out and gets a virtual job doing freelance computer work, telemarketing, adult entertainment, or whatever else it is best suited to. Whatever money it makes is then funnelled into your account at Content Paradise, DAZ, RDNA or the Marketplace.

And last but not least... the ULTIMATE FANTASY FEATURE:

instantaneous file load and render times! :-)
