Subject: !! renaming !!!!! files ! in !!! the !! Pose !!!! library !!!!!!!!!

blonderella ( ) posted Thu, 06 October 2005 at 8:38 AM · edited Wed, 27 November 2024 at 5:48 AM

is anyone aware of problems that may occur with any files in the Pose library if I go ahead and rename them...all the stupid !! and !!!!!!!! are driving me nuts (and it's already a short drive), it's near impossible to find things...I would like to have everything organized alphabetically to make finding things speedy, but I have some vague recollection of seeing someone say that such-and-such a file should not be renamed or it would mess something or other up, although doing renaming files in the Pose library is USUALLY okay...thanks for any input! Karen :D

Say what you mean and mean what you say.

!!! I !!!!dont !!!think there is any!!!!problem. Looks !!!$#%#@# to me. :) I think it bugs me too so as got new models and such, I removed them before doing my permanent backups. It is a pain though

It's usually save to rename any folder that shows up in Poser's library.

Keith ( ) posted Thu, 06 October 2005 at 9:36 AM

Poses, cameras, props, faces, characters and hands are usually safe. The one thing to look out for is morph poses that don't call to the injection files but to other morph poses. I found out the hard way that that the V3 full-body injection morphs and some merchant characters (for V3, M3, whatever) do that: instead of referring to the !DAZ folder to get the morph information, they refer to, say, the !Ears-Nose morph folder and its files, which refer to the !DAZ folder files. CorrectReference is your friend in these cases: I run Pro and it can verify and change injection references so I can organize things more logically and get rid of those %^$*&#;(^@ superfluous characters.

My pose folders are named how I like them and no problems here. I named them "positional poses", "MAT poses", etc. and then sub folders too like M3 positional poses, V3 positional poses yada, yada, yada!!!!!!!!!!! thefixer, poser coord.

I have my pose directory set up with a file within a file system. I have files that say like V3mats, V3clothing mats, v3poses, and so forth. then I put all the corresponding mats files within those folders. makes things easier to find and I have never had a problem with poser not finding what I click on.

Dizzi ( ) posted Thu, 06 October 2005 at 11:22 AM

Subfolders will only work for P5/P6...

lemur01 ( ) posted Thu, 06 October 2005 at 11:30 AM

I've got a simpler method... I don't buy from merchants that name their files this way. Jack

Coleman ( ) posted Thu, 06 October 2005 at 12:29 PM

What's really weird is when they add the !!!! to texture and geometry folders where it's totally unnecessary since we don't view those folders with the Poser UI like the libraries.

momodot ( ) posted Thu, 06 October 2005 at 12:42 PM

!!!'nother question Other than prefixing for example "zed litle_used_ poses" is there a way to force things down the folder list? Hopefully a symbol character.

Dizzi ( ) posted Thu, 06 October 2005 at 1:01 PM

is there a way to force things down the folder list? ~ { }

momodot ( ) posted Thu, 06 October 2005 at 1:45 PM

~ thank you... I had tried several symbols and given up... I like the tilde ~ symbol and left bracket is good to know too though it is a bit ugly. I do aprciate this.

Dizzi ( ) posted Thu, 06 October 2005 at 2:04 PM

You can basically take any character that's got a higher character code than 'z'.

mrsparky ( ) posted Thu, 06 October 2005 at 2:42 PM

None of the products I've worked on have the !! naming convention and never will. Because I know how b***dy annoying it is. I agree with Jack. So the next time I buy a product and the folders are named !!!!. I'm going to ask for a fixed version or a refund to cover the time it takes to rename things.

Pinky - you left the lens cap of your mind on again.

I'm not certain, but I believe that one of the SR's for V3 fixed this.... If not, then using a text editor capable of doing a "replace all" on the "INJ All" file and replacing "!" with the correct path (assuming you have all the INJ/REM files in the same folder), should work:-) Don't forget to make a backup 1st, though.. Cheers, Diolma

You can check BEFORE buying if you use the "Click here..." thingy to read the READ ME textfile included in the file on the product description page. Read it again slowly, the above will make sense. :)

Hmmm, I don't think either of the two products I now have in the MP have !!! at all. Think I'll do a check and if they do I'll edit them. :-) I've been paying attention to what buyers are saying and also with tips from my beta testers, I've tried to make my latest product more user friendly. For instance naming all pose and textures consistantly so they can be found easier and putting them in folders named the same as the product. Now I hope he passes the Rendo tests and hits the MP soon. :)

Drat, Tried to finish my post but my comp went nuts! Hit send button before I finished. And then I couldn't get back in the forum. (arrrgh.) What I tried to say is that I tried to rename all the M3 and V3 pose files in my library and afterwards they wouldn't work. Then I had to re-install all the poses...sigh. P4 and PP won't let you use additional pose libraries and soon get over-loaded. So as A result my pose library is soooo full and I hate that. Mostly all I see is !!!V3 or !!!M3 this or that. And thinking how irritated that gets me, I never use that naming system on my folders for my products. Okay, nuff said, my head is hurting.

Twas a jest, speculating that Poser 7 would try to install itself to your !: drive, therefor putting itself on top of all other programs running under Windows Vista, and also allocating 100% of the CPU for good measure. The box is even oddly shaped, ensuring that you stack it on top of other things.
