I think Blender is worse (or the version I looked at a while back was like trying to breath through concrete).

<< Truespace 1 is out on the web for free..;) >>If Truespace is for you, the free version is now up to 3.2. It's never been my thing, though I know others who do really well out of it.
*"Truespace 1 is out on the web for free..;) I found it the 2nd most confusing interface (Blender is 1st) I've ever seen..;) ******************************************************************** They can't be worse than Z-Brush...can they? ******************************************************************** I think Blender is worse (or the version I looked at a while back was like trying to breath through concrete). ******************************************************************" You people have obviously never tried to use E/F Shade Shade is one of the WORST 3D programs ever conceived!!! Poser imports not withstanding. its user "interface" looks as though someone ,in a malicious act of cruelty, combined the WORST of an old copy of Quark Xpress 3.31 and the WORST of 'Pov Ray"& "Blender" and crow-barred in some modeling tools from the original alpha release of autocad for DOS . its scene navigation "tools" appear to be deliberately designed to prevent you from locating ANY scene object. A total peice of CRAP!!
"I found it the 2nd most confusing interface (Blender is 1st) I've ever seen..;)" Couldn't agree more about Truespace! For that matter, I've tried Wings and Anim8or too. To be honest, I'm beginning to think that I'm just not patient enough for modelling - it's so damn confusing! Big props to those who CAN model. When I grow up, I wanna be like you :) Big thing about DAZ is: if you want V3(or similar kinfolk) then, they are the place to be. For stuff like Truespace and even Bryce, I definitely agree with aeikema (cool name!), do comparative shopping! After all, it IS your money. For example, I recently bought Bryce5 (not5.5) for $30 brand new at ebay. DAZ wants twice that price! Don't get me wrong now, I'm not a DAZ basher! No,sir! In fact without DAZ, I wouldn't have V3 and S3(my-cute-little-boo-boo-spank-babies) or Mimic! ...er Rereading that last bit, I do believe it's time for me to spend this Saturday night watching bands and some REAL women. "Scru u guys! I'm goin' to tha bar!"

There is a Non US Version for a bit more at DAZ, (Look under Software) to cover Shipping. (DAZ Price includes Shipping.) Personally, it surprised me that they did this, since they are also promoting the Sale at DAZ on their site. I think it was a marketing error on both companies part! (NOTE: They did have a link to the $199 on their homepage this morning that is gone now...!)

Flak, if you think Blender is like trying to breathe through concrete, I'd love to see what you think of FormZ and Shade, both of which are leagues beyond Blender in terms of obtuseness. I actually get along with Blender ok now, but FormZ and Shade are not only out of the stratosphere, they're damn close to being out of the solar system. Oh, even ZBrush is approachable compared to those two.
Luckily (by the sounds of it) I haven't had anything to do with Shade or FormZ. I have a vague memory of the zbrush interface... psychotic stuff (from memory). edit - but then, I like the bryce interface, so go figure.. lol

Now I like: Cinema 4d, Rhino, Wings and I wish I could get used to ZBrush because I think it's the best for making heads and critters. I never could understand Truespace, Anim8or, Blender and Shade. I also find that Poser doesn't have an interface that I'm particularly comfortable in for that matter. OTOH a person can learn to use just about anything after a little time with it. I did even manage to become comfortable in Blender at one time, although it's like ZBrush for me, if I'm not using it constantly I have to relearn it all next time I open it up. Like kuroyume I'll enter just in case I win anything, and if I'm lucky then figure out what I'll do with it!:)
since I've caused such a ruckus..I should explain that in my experience, I find Blender to be unwieldy (though I've figured out a couple of things..I think Blender's trying to be all things to all markets..;)..Truespace was like trying to play Qbert..it's completely graphic (or @#$% near..;), and you have to memorize what pictures do what things, and what expands to do what in what mode, eh..wot wot?..(sorry, watching Madness of King George at the moment..;) I don't know from Zbrush or Shade, but I'll take your word for it..;)
No matter how odd or incomprehensible a package is, you'll find someone that loves it..nothing disparaging against anyones' package or program, but I just found Wings (and Anim8tor) easier to use than say, Strata and Amapi..;)
Maybe it just takes a certain kind of mind to use the thing..but I've never known what kind of Mind I have anyway..;)

Great movie that! Why is it that the English can take ten thousand dollars and make a great movie and yet it takes millions to make a piece of you know what in the states? Remember this - J.K. Rowling is one of the richest women in the U.K. - writing a kids book! Back on topic - I never understood Unix-like interfaces (metaphorically speaking of course). The interface should be minimally understandable without requiring a course or a thorough manual read (or two). If the icons are insufficient to convey their purpose, maybe it's time to implement textual popups (last I looked these features were part of every major OS with GUI). The Kai idea was innovative for its time, but, like anything untested, once put into the wild, it will succumb to the real world. In the real world, Kai-type interfaces don't work well. They are cumbersome (I used 'cumb' twice - hehe), unintuitive (their strong point was supposed to be intuitiveness), and confusing. That said, I've not used most of these other apps (Zbrush, Wings, Anim8or). But I have toyed with Bryce (5.5), TrueSpace (5.0), and Shade. Bryce isn't too bad if you already have Poser experience. TrueSpace (5.0) was clunky, but no unmanagable. Shade is only understandable after you have attained your Bushido in combat against the Tengunoyama. ;)
