Subject: Help! Losing All Ability to Morph After Placing Hair

renderq ( ) posted Mon, 10 October 2005 at 3:12 PM · edited Thu, 15 August 2024 at 11:30 AM

I am using Stephenie Petite with Full Head and Body morphs. After placing the Dive Hair on, I soon lose the ability to alter Morphs for the face and body. I have tried to select the head and body parts but the morph dials refuse to register. I can't even pose the character. I realize this must be a stupid questions, sorry. Any help would be greatly appreciated. rq

I would check to see if the figure has been locked somehow. you can check that under the Figure Command> Lock Figure. There should not be a checkmark.

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

Thanks, I checked again, its not locked. I can pose the figure and adjust the morphs on the Hair. But when I select the head or body parts to adjust the morphs, I get nothing. The values on the Morph Dials change, but there is no viewable change. I don't even have control on the basics like smile. Just before I noticed I couldn't morph anymore I was moving/adjusting the light if that helps. Also under the figure Selection I only have Figure 1. Maualy selecting the body parts Head, chest, etc gets me nowhere. I didn't before that I am using Poser 6. TIA rq

Try disabling external morphs.

Luckily I had all the morph target settings written down. Nothing I could see was able to bring back control. Only the hair was morphable. So I applied the setting all over again and then applied the hair.

Once after saving scene changes the morphs froze again. I noticed the models eyes crossed after saving. I reloaded the file and all was well. Sounds more like a bug unfortunately.
Running on AMDFX-51 with Gig Ram and haven'thad problems like this before.

Thanks for the advice but I'm going to go with a bazzilion different scene saves to avoid this from happening again.

If you find out how to fix this, or how to prevent it from happening, please let me know. I lost several hours and quite a bit of hair to exactly the same problem on Friday, with the added bonus that I was working on a paid project. No amount of tinkering solved the issue: restarting poser, restarting the machine, or even opening "previous" versions of the file; I had two main characters in it and alternatively one or the other would lock eventually. In the end, I had to start again the whole thing from scratch in P5, and save just before adding lighting to open and render in P6. But I wasn't a happy bunny.

Arien - do you have external morphs disabled? If not, disable them. Poser 6's external morph system is buggy as a picnic in July. Life will be much easier for you if you disable it.

I experienced the exact same thing, but in P5 on M3. No matter how much I change the morph dials, nothing happens. I have to start all over again from scratch with a new document.

randym: I did have it disabled from earlier, when saving a CR2 to use in P4 and P5. Actually, I never had problems before until I had to disable it, and somehow I believe that the disabling is what triggered the problem. Don't ask me why :)

Hmmm. Have you tried re-injecting the morphs?

Arien ( ) posted Tue, 11 October 2005 at 9:37 AM

I did. Several times. Morphs that were there before stopped working randomly (i.e. a "smile" morph that was at 0.5 and already "morphing" wouldn't make any further changes despite being sent to 1, or even 2), and morphs that were not injected would show if using the injection, but not make any changes. Removing and reloading the morphs didn't help. Also interestingly enough, the expressions -what I was working on when it happend- could be saved, so when restarting all I had to do was to load all expression morphs and apply the poses. Which tells me the channels were working fine until a point. Could be wrong though. Anyway, using P5 helped in getting it ready. I'm just worrying that it might happen again.

It's very random. A scene that initialy gave me troubles on Saturday works now when I load it. Still this is a major bug that can be crippling if you are under a deadline. rq
