Several weeks ago when a lot of post were being pulled, FranOnTheEdge commented that maybe too many had too much time on their hands and issued an challenge to put the energy into rendering instead. I saw those beautiful photos she posted and decided to make "waves". I guess I'm the only one who took her challenge to heart, it was fun. Question to anyone. I'm not sure how to use the mask render thing. I've got Kithen's book. The attached link is to my image. The ocean is not anti-aliased. The pier is. I created a mask of pier which I used to created a seperate layer of AA'd pier to paste as layer over the rendered ocean/pier (not AA'd)in PSP9. Is this the correct way to do this? Can this masking be used to render different portions AA'd and not AA'd without use of paint program? I couldn't get Kithen's keyboard shortcut of "control+shift clicking" the check mark in an objects attributes box to work. Anyone with the book see pg Why? Thanks

Great looking render skiwillgee! I know what you mean about the anti-aliasing thing. Sometimes it works for me and sometimes it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Here is a link to a great page of Bryce Keyboard shortcuts & easter eggs. A little more than half way down the page is the AA ON/OFF procedure. KB Shortcuts Sometimes it is difficult to tell if AA-pass works or not. It's usually more visible on complex heavily bumped material. I almost always use Mask renders for layering in PhotoShop. It allows for much more control. If you're not sure wether AA worked or not, masking/layering the item in works well. Biggest Tip: Save 2 copies (or more) of your original render. Nice Work! Rod

I don't know the answer to your questions, but that is one fantastic looking ocean. I think that is the most realistic looking Bryce ocean I have ever seen!

My heavens, Wow!! All you get for that is a smile for its excellence. No laughing allowed - except at myself maybe for pure amazement at what can be done if you try. Right, who's next???

Looks really great to me, one of the best water simulations I've ever seen come out of Bryce. Excellently well done, sorry Fran but I'm not exactly one of those with too much time on his hands =)

Ah well, it was meant as a challenge to those with time hanging heavy on their hands... if you're busy with art work how about showing us what you're doing?

Okay Fran, you talked me into it,lol. You inspired me to try a new method(at least to me) of making ocean or river waves. I was kinda pleased with the way the wave crests of the material picked up the ambient colors of the sky. Mind you, this is a WIP, and the so-so rock and jetty are just stand-ins for a better terrain and a lighthouse I am building in Wings. Skiwillgee's request applies here too, so don't laugh.

Most excellent danamo. Reminds me of,... I think it is the Columbia river gorge where all the wind surfers go. Looking forward to finished project. Kinda OT I re-rendered my image with everything AA'd at 1984X744 pixels. It took approximately 17 hours, 14-15 of it for the AA pass. My image has 175,420,160 polygons. Not very efficient, huh. The detail is better but anti-alias takes something away from my foam texture.

Whoo-hoo! Thank you Skiwillgee! My hometown sits on a bank of the of the Columbia river and I guess I had it in mind when I started this project. You've given me an idea. I think a wind-surfer pic would be fun to do.:-)

danamo, Forget about laughing and just gimme the tutorial! I'm serious here, how did you do that? Is it anything to do with Zhann's "The Summoning" tutorial where she does spray etc? I like the way those crests pick up the sky colour too, very nice indeed.

Sure thing Fran, and thanks! Actually, the method I'm using is quite a bit different from Zhann's and I think it may take another entire separate post to try to explain it,lol. I'm glad you like it.
