Subject: Vicky 2 Catsuite to scuba suite using a MAT file

Hi there,
I've been trying to make Vicky 2 Cat suit into a scuba suit like the MAT file in Micheal 2 Clothing pack. I just don't know how to do it. I can make the texture but not cut off or make transparent the legs and arms like in the Mike MAT files. (I don't mean make invisible) Could anyone help me.....please.
Thank you in advance!!!!

Trevor

It sounds as though you need to make a Transparency Map, which is a special sort of texture map. White is visible. Black is totally transparent. If you've already made texturemap with a template, making a transmap is no different. Once you have it, you use it just like a texture map, but applied to the object Transparency. There are some differences between Poser version in the details of how you set this up -- you may have to adjust some other settings. I've also found it can help to apply the transmap to the specular input, to kill reflections from the transparent parts of the object. In Poser 5/6 the transmat will switch on and off the other settings.

Thank you for your reply. I have made the scuba suit look right when I render in Poser. Is there a way to have the scuba suit in view without rendering all the time like the Daz Mike scuba suit? Thanks for your help

I don't think so, but I don't know the Mike suit.

What the current generation of Poser figures have are multiple materials, so that the main part of the body can be set up differently to the arms and legs. Likewise conforming clothing (which is a special sort of figure). With a clothing figure you can set a body-part invisible, which is fine if the boundary is in the right place. That leaves the rest of the figure displayed normally.

Anything which uses transparency has all the transparent material shown in the preview as that ghostly dot-pattern. The V2 Catsuit is a single material, so the whole suit does that. (Pauses to check) The recent Hiro 3 bodysuit has materials which more-or-less match those for the Hiro 3 figure, so those materials which are completely visible -- no transparent areas -- don't need transparency to be set, and are normally visible.

Some clothing sets have MAT poses which turn parts of the underlying figure -- the feet, for instance -- invisible to avoid problems with poke-through. It could be a useful option for the clothing you're making.

A few clothing items have used remapped versions of the catsuit -- some of Gorodin's texture sets come to mind. There's no reason why you couldn't use UVmapper, or the Poser grouping tool, to split the V2 Catsuit into useful material zones.

(long wait)

OK, that's how I did the picture. I imported the .obj file, made temporary groups with names such as "ShinMaterial", and when I had the groups with the right boundaries, assigned the group to a new material. Then, when all was done, I deleted the temporary groups. Save the .obj under a new filename, load the .cr2 into an editor, change the geometry reference, and save the new .cr2.

At this point, Bob is your parental sibling of choice.

Hi there, After feeling defeated I thought I'd give it another go. pressed button s i had before bt maybe not in the same order and have now finally a scuba suit that fits vicky. I used the assign material button in the group tool and renamed the parts like you said. I then added my texture map and Poser seemed to do everything else. I didn't need to delete names or use an editor. Seems to render perfect as well. We shall see. Thank you for your time and help in helping me, its really appreciated. I was thinking about hitting my head against the wall. trevor
