Subject: How do I get started with clothing design?

I've been using Poser on and off for a few years now. I've created a few basic clothing designs using different textures and trans maps on exisiting clothes, but I'd like to go a step or two further. I'd like to put the effort into designing my own meshes, either for my own use, of maybe to post at free stuff if they're okay. Who knows, maybe one day they'll be good enough to sell... I'm wondering what's the best way to get started? What kind of software are people using? I'm currently using Poser 5, I don't suppose there's anything built into 6 that will do the job? I recall more than a year ago coming across some freeware program that would import standard poser meshes, which you could then "cut" to make new clothes. I never used it at the time and lost the software in a computer upgrade. I can't remember it's name or find it again. Anyone know what I'm talking about? This question has probably been asked before but I couldn't find it in a search. Any links to external tutorials would be a help. Thanks in advance. Johan

I'd suggest to start with visiting the Wings forum. Wings is a free mesh modeller with quite some power behind it. You can find the link to the Wings site where you can download the app at the top of the forum. Then post questions in the forum for suggestions on how to do what you want to achieve... They're very helpful there.. Cheers, Diolma

Check my freestuff for the Cloth Primitives download. It's a tutorialshowing how you can make cloths from simple meshes. There isn't any modelling info in it yet, I'm working on that but it should get you started :) John.

There are some modeling video tutorials at that link.

Start with a modeling program. I use Blender 3D, it's free. I started with it in June (no experience with any other modeling program), and by the end of the month I had mastered it well enough to make good clothing meshes, just by teaching myself and referring to online tutorials. There are other free modeling programs too, which may have more Poser-specific support in the way of tutorials and such. (I don't know of many other Poser users using Blender).
