i've just viewed this on the vue site...... you dont need vue 5 etc... this is a standalone product from what i've seen..... so what is everyone's view on it? has anyone read it?

Easel is just less than a week out - not surprising that there are not too many reactions right now.

Bought it, ran it, uninstalled it, send feedback to E-onsoftware, read their "tough shit" answer, deleted the download and the registration, decided I had learned a $49 lesson in life.

Do NOT buy VUE5 EASEL.

Interesting comment. I run it on Mac now and can even use my atmospheres i have collected over the years. And expect to use my models too. Even plants i can use - i tried the upcoming Linda FrenchKiss Lush package. Cool!

"Do NOT buy VUE5 EASEL." Why Hein? You gave no reasons as to why you thought it wasn't a good buy. It would be more helpful to somebody to know of your reasons, so they could make an informed decision. If it didn't fit your work flow, then say so and why it didn't fit. If it was unstable on your machine, then say what the crashes were and the specs of your machine. If it was just a personal opinion of Vue Easel, then say that to. Cheers

I actually posted my reasons a couple of days ago but here are the main one's again. The same materials used on the same objects using the same settings will not always produce the same results. More than 2 materials onscreen and the Material Editor starts to stutter and slows down to snailpace. Gave the Metablob thing a try, 2 cylinders, 290 polygons, rendertime 8+ minutes in preview mode. AMD XP3000 - 1280Mb Mem - ATi9600XT - Ton and a half of space where needed.

Hmmm, sorry hein, not the experience I've just had. Metablob thing, 4 cylinders, 1 sphere, 3 glass materials, 398 polys, 640x480 to screen, 3 mins to render in preview mode.

P4 2.8MHz, 1Gig Mem, Geforce FX550.

And the same scene rendered in Infinite

Took 4 seconds longer.

ok i'll keep watching this thread and see what everyone says.... i want vue 5 of course but considering how much it costs - i've thought about vue easel to get me thru the learning......bryce 5.5 i do like however not to crash hot on using daz studio just to import into vue..... i like my things simple... your posts are interesting and thanks for giving some positive feedback on it.

there is a great sale on now at e-on. Unfortunately I bought mine a few months ago. V5 is going for a great price, I think at around $149.00. Take a look. The sale only lasts this month. Paul g

Pauldg ( ) posted Tue, 11 October 2005 at 11:03 PM

Yep, $149 for full version, and $99 upgrade from V4 and V Easel.

hein ( ) posted Wed, 12 October 2005 at 12:53 AM

If you have experience with any of the previous versions of VUE go for V5 E'sprit, the upgrade from V4 is a bargain at $99. If you ever contemplated getting VUE for the first time, go for 5 E'sprit not for Easel, at the moment it costs only $70 more than Easel and you'll get yourself a far more capable tool.

war2 ( ) posted Thu, 13 October 2005 at 10:21 AM

i do agree that esprit is far more capable then easel so if money isnt an issue (and 70us$ more isnt much) go for v5esprit. but if you realy dont have 70us$ extra, easel is a realy nice application, sorry to hear that you had problems hein, im playing around with easel myself and sure its limited compared to esprit and infinite but its a superlow price app and it does what it should do, and it does it realy good. its atleast for me working solidly (some super minor issues which im sure will be fixed in the next update), no instabilitiy issues and no render problems.

Well I"m downloading my copy as I type this. Anyone know what they mean by Poser Import? Is it just OBJ or does this package read PZ3's?

wabe ( ) posted Fri, 14 October 2005 at 12:31 AM ยท edited Fri, 14 October 2005 at 12:31 AM

It reads pz3 - as all Vue products do. Cool! But you oribably found out already when i type this.

can someone tell me how large the download is, please ?

wabe ( ) posted Fri, 14 October 2005 at 4:58 AM

I think 330 MB. In two parts, but part 2 starts automatically when part 1 is done.

Thanks.

bruno021 ( ) posted Fri, 14 October 2005 at 6:41 PM

If you're new to 3d or want things simple as you said, artemis, go for easel, and check the gallery here, some Easel renders already. If you use Bryce 5.5, however, you might want to go for 5 Esprit, for the superior material editor, and more control over everything in general, not to mention radiosity for your interior scenes.

wabe ( ) posted Sat, 15 October 2005 at 4:16 AM

and to add to bruno021 - to be able to add some extensions to 5 Esprit like plant editor, more light control etc. If you want/need those features.
