Glad you asked about scripting - shame they didn't spill anything :-/
Glad you asked about Poser - shame they didn't spill anything :-/
It's starting to look as if my nightmare will come true;
Bryce6 includes FULL support for the less popular app (Studio), and not so polished compatibility for the one that people are actually using (Poser).

I think that DAZ is actually going the wrong direction with Bryce. the reason is that tring to be compatable with poser and things like that you end up just chasing Vue and looking like a johnny come latley. Instead try some compatability with other programs like Rhino and cad to make it a tool for architetural visualization and being Bryce. Bryce users I feel are overall a bit different and there are more modelers in the Bryce community so being better for them would be a plus instead of being Vue light be unique and take a new path.

well look at it from a business standpoint; you've created a alternative to Poser, and you want to shoot your own child to make it compatible with a competitor?..;) As long as I can import Poser figures into Bryce (tho dynamic hair would be nice..;), I'm happy..

To be honest, i think its going downhill right now, and for every news report coming from Daz, the more certain i get that Bryce is going to end up less and less Bryce, but more and more Daz Studio. 9 out of 10 questions in their Bryce forums, revolves around Poser characters for crying out loud. Focusing on character import with 5.5 was acceptable, but enough already. Now its time to put characters aside and focus on Bryce itself. Enhanced render options, soft shadows, GI, increasing the quality on trees, skies and terrains etc, etc should be the main focus point now. Unfortunatly right now it feels like Bryce: The Program, was more alive when the development was dead.

"Development on Bryce 6 is just beginning, there is a lot of re-structuring or organization that needs to take place within the code base in order for us to continue with our development plans." Does this sound like "oh well to be honest.. it might take a while for bryce 6 to arrive (say another year or maybe two years, considering the 5.5 history) and we can't guarantee that it will have radical improvements by then either."' They take too much time as the 3d world is rushing by, or should I say rushing further away in front? oh well... bryce remains a nice cheap way to start experimenting with 3d and we sorta knew DAZ wouldn't/couldn't work miracles to change that any time soon.

I think we need to give them the benefit of the doubt until the new version is released. I'm sure the company just wants to add more support for daz studio so that it will be on par with vue. I highly doubt that they will go off in their own direction and not give Brycers some improvements that they have been asking for, but it might take a little while for them to catch up with other progams like Vue and terregan and maya. As long as it is easy to use and works on a Mac I say bring it on...
I agree with Rochr. Skies, trees, and terrains should be the focus. Sure I'd love to have seamless intergration with Bryce and Poser, but I'd love greater realism out of Bryce renders more. I also think Bryce should move beyond only being able to make booleans out of primitives. D|S has a long way to go before it can compete, let alone replace Poser. At least that's what I'm reading over in the Poser forum.

A good start would be to open up the program architecture, allowing third party plugins. That would most likely speed the enhancement up a little. Im very curious about the development of the Maxwell renderer for Bryce, but the question is if its just Next Limits plan, or if this is something theyve discussed with Daz.

Rochr - amen, brother. From "reading in between the lines" from Siggraph `05, a Bryce 6 would technically be more about Bryce and less about figures. (If you look at just how much there is to expand on non-figure capabilities in Bryce). I mean, I guess we each need to come to our own realization that DAZ sells figures, they created Studio before they aquired Bryce and always had plans to further Studio. Studio, figure development, and compatibility will always exsist with DAZ, period. Like it, hate it, ignore it, lol. NOW, anyway...that being said... Much of what I hear about a Bryce 6 is not about figures. Although, like I said the figure part of DAZ/Studio/Bryce will always be in the air, pretty much what has been (openly) discussed is about Bryce's own future capabilities. Yes; third-party plugins, an SDK for plugins, third-party renderers, not to mention overhauls on basically every aspect of Bryce. My vote = give us plugin capabilities FIRST. This will satisfy us users on SO many levels for a very long time. Users with an SDK and scripting capabilities? Oh, the amount of time lost to my job and girlfriend would be incalculable....;oD AgentSmith

"I want to be what I was
when I wanted to be what I am now"
I use Bryce on pcs and macs because I don't want to tie up my computer with a long render, so I copy the scene file to my other pc or mac. The mac has more memory (1 gb) and its a little faster and quieter, good for those overnight renders. I have been disappointed with Bryce 5.5 because I can't switch stuff from my pc to my mac. Bryce 5.5 should handle the same stuff that 5.01 does. The last time I did that the program would hang on the mac. This is a scene that my pc could handle with no problems. After this, I don't trust Bryce 5.5 on my old projects on the mac. Bryce 5.5 should be backwards compatible and cross platform but its not. Can't go back to 5.01 on the mac because 5.01 does not work on Tiger. Did post the error on Daz's bugtracker and they sent me an email saying the bug was closed. Hopefully 6.0 will be better or I will use Bryce less.
