From my past posting, everyone's help understanding Vue before I'd buy paid off greatly.

I finally had a chance to sit down and really put Vue 5s trial download to the test. All I can really say is, OH MY WORD!!! This software is fantastic and easy to use. I understood Vue fairly quickly thanks to my previous experiences with Bryce 5, Adobe PhotoShop and even a hint of Poser.

I simply tripped out when I seen you can use layers in Vue (similar to PhotoShop). I see this as a huge asset test rendering individual layers (I believe this is the idea) before tackling the whole elephant and will put it to the test tonight!

Using the X,Y,Z axis was a breeze thanks to the Bryce and Poser experience. As for Vues application itself, manipulating or adjusting terrains and skylines was a snap with endless possibilities but by golly, with EASE! I love the simplicity and optional depth of using the editor compared to Bryce. The renders from Vue was BEYOND impressive simply blowing me away. With the trial version, I can only render to a smaller window (640x480) but testing it against the same size window and similar simplistic illustration in Bryce proved swift!

The thing I absolutely screamed over (startling my kids more than once) was importing one of my previous Poser PZ3! The pop up message I received when importing said it needed to know where my poser program was, I pointed Vue to the correct location, it went out finding all the textures and BOOM BABY it appeared (compared to pain staking tasks of Bryce). The imported PZ3 rendered in great detail too (well so does Bryce) but OH, the EASE of importing!

Conclusion: I still love Bryce and got ideas where Id prefer it on certain things but found a new toy (Vue) Im tickled over in addition. I am anxious to purchase once the funds are saved up. I considered skipping 1 house payment or getting a loan for Vue Infinite (JUST KIDDING!) Good night Im a nut but not out of the shell (laughs). I'll have it in time.

Thank you all again for the individual responses helping me understand Vues pros and cons in my earlier string. You contributed knowledge and monetary savings to me by simply speaking up in short, helping! Drinks are on me. Name your favorite beverage and Ill email it to you (snickers).

Well, now I am dissapointed - "only kidding"??? That would probably be the least you will do when it comes to finding funds for the next version ;)

Don't worry... as long as you don't take pictures of rocks for their texture during your vacations or you don't try and think how you could reproduce a particular sunset in Vue when you see one in real, ... then you are safe :)

Oh, gosh, Agiel, I did take pictures for texturing during my last holiday!!!

:) In my last vacation at the beach, I was the only one walking around with my camera, taking pictures of textures of rocks and samples of waves. People were looking at me funny. I did take some great samples though...

Good to know I'm not alone! Ps: ever tried to make a picture of a coconut leaf for use in Xfrog or Vue? Well, I did! Even had to make a pano since it was too big! failed miserably, btw! Must've been a funny sight, though, me on a chair taking the pictures of the leaf on the restaurant table!

Hahahah. I can imagine it. Happens to me all the time - because of the smog here in toronto, we get awsome sunsets, and I always think about how to get them into Vue. I'm hopeless. I don't take pictures for textures, though - but only 'cause I don't have a digital camera :)

Well, think twice before buying one! Unless looking stupid isn't a problem. ( it isn't, after a while!)

Elminster_ZK - you can always squeeze the purchase of a camera in between updates. And Bruno21 - you're right. After a while, if the texture is really great, who cares what people think. Vue may be an addiction, but it's a wonderful way to go. Lin

Well Lin, you're right, but i just started college (for digital art, no less), so I'm stretched kind of thin - I'm lurching from Infinite demo to Infinite demo as it is. ;) But yeah, I am beginning to see (through college and just hobby-wise) that a digital camera is a must - fortunately, they are always coming down in price. Oh, and I can't forget the crappy .5 megapixel one on my cellphone ;) Vue is just so easy, too - As soon as I got it, that one tutorial with the palm tree island that came with the program really got it all down for me - a toddler could learn to use it in no time at all (okay, a little hyperbole). ;) -Zak

As for Vue addiction - I am addicted since 1999. Is there any hope left for me? ;-)

Welcome aboard TCopsey, and be sure to leave yourself post-it notes around your 'puter area reminding yourself to check in with the family once in a while...AND...taking a break to eat now and again isn't all that bad of an idea either!LOL!

AND point on, Walther!!! However, not having any meadows where I live to place my DAZ Milhorses, what I find myself doing is walking around Boston after sunset and turning around in circles looking at the different shadows I'm casting from all the assorted streetlights and shop windows and wondering why I can't get these same shadows in VUE without a hundred lights and a five week render '-)!

Spidey, you walk??? Ok, then i will believe that too. Regarding lights, maybe nature has just a little more knowledge than...? Or maybe it is because god is on version 105,555,286,179,034,843,120 while we are on version 5 still! Wait a little for new versions and when we are on a similar level, i am sure you will be able ... And don't forget, the answer is 42 anyway!

Thanks for the "welcome" Spider. The post it notes are a fantastic idea! Currently, my 2 kids have grouped together over throwing my domain in the home! Basically, the have grounded me from Vue, Poser - well, my Laptop for 1 week (shh....here they come - phew, that was close! Getting caught would have been an additional week of grounding). Glad to be on board w/the rest of the crazy group.
