Subject: poser and it's issues..a new video card will help?

softcris ( ) posted Thu, 13 October 2005 at 3:32 PM · edited Mon, 10 February 2025 at 8:51 AM

Poser 6 and issues with out of memory and ohter monsters that should not happen....like can't render a V3 with M3 and 1 or 2 props in mode FireFly best. I got 1.5gb ram/3Ghz P4/ 200gb hd with 60%free and still find problems. One told me, re-install WIN XP....(I did 20 days ago- problem persist) Pleeease..give me a better solution you super guys, super gods in computing..tell me something not so painfull. While making the virtual memory bigger does not affects...does it make any difference if I do buy a new graphic card? let's say..a Radeon X800 Pro PCI Express 256MB would it make any difference or not? anyone can tell anything about that? thanks

P6 SR1 fixed a lot of problems, especially out of memory ones. Do you have SR1? And a new graphics card, well, in my experience nVidia cards play nicer with OpenGL than ATI cards. A new graphics cards should not affect the final renders, driver robustness may be an issue though. I tweaked my Geforce6800LE into a Quadro FX 4000 using RivaTuner, which resulted in a large performancne increase for Poser, and a performance and stability increase in Vue.

Simple solution - don't use the highest quality setting of FireFly. For most cases except a few exotic, it's overkill. Go back one notch to the Production settings, which is equal to the production setting in Poser 5.

About Rivatuner tweaking a FX5600 - it will do something, but I don't know exactly what. Probably you won't get a huge performance increase, but the OpenGL stability and performance can be improved, probably at the cost of DirectX performance...

Hi again...quoting you:'the cost of DirectX performance...' meaning that I will loose in AfterEffects when making movies?but will see some improvement when using Poser6? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now: tweaking using Rivatuner, is just to run the software Rivatuner and restart the computer and is done? Or..do I need to configurate manualy some stuff in it? It will be the first time for me..so be gentle when explaining ok? thanks a lot cg

I just run the RivaTuner software. It'll detect what kind of nVidia graphics chip you have, and it will only show options that are valid for that graphics chip. There are several Web sites that have an in-depth explanation of how to use RivaTuner, just search for RivaTuner in Google. For the 6800 series it's also possible to do a BIOS upgrade. Everything, including the system BIOS, then will believe you've got a Quadro card. I didn't use the BIOS upgrade, so the startup screen still reports a 6800LE. I'm rather careful with BIOS updates, if they go wrong you have an unusable systeem or graphics card. Again, I don't know what can be done with a 5600.

I use a 6600 and I don't have any problems with Poser... Daz studio on the other hand.... works like crap.
