Subject: Materials disappearing.......

Monsoon ( ) posted Sat, 15 October 2005 at 9:23 AM ยท edited Tue, 19 November 2024 at 12:58 PM

Has anyone had homemade materials disappear from whatever folder once it's been made a collection in the material browser? It's been rampant with me....and now trouble has confirmed it as well.......... I've notified tech support...just wondered if anyone here has had difficulties... Monsoon

95% of the problems sit.... Have you tried to delete the prv file in the folders where that happens Monsoon? They contain the previews and will be rebuilt when they are not there. Sometimes a good way to reset collection previews. AND, i guess you are sure that the disappearing materials were not 3.1 ones that 5 and higher can't read and therefore "strips" out. Right?

One day your ship comes in - but you're at the airport.

Yes, indeed Walther....they are freshly made in Infinite....and the .prv has nothing to do with it. It's not that they are not showing up in the browser..it's that they are actually gone...kaput...nixed...from the folder itself!! I can cook up 5 mats and put them in a folder....then I can copy and paste 5 more into the same folder from another one. As long as I access those mats through Windows Explorer, I can apply them to my object just fine. But when I turn that folder into a collection in the material browser...Vue deletes them from the folder itself....simply GONE!! Sometimes it's just half of them...other times it's everything in the folder....to the phantom zone!

Hi Monsoon- YES! This is the one RAMPANT Vue 5 Infinite problem I've been having also. V5I's handling of Mats and ALSO VOB collections is VERY buggy. My best work-around has been to rename my larger collections with a "1-Vehicles", 1-Oceans", etc. This renaming and then telling Vue to FIND the new collections generally works- but not ALWAYS. Just giving them a new name is hit and miss. And sometimes they STILL disappear ANYWAY... So, YES, tell E-on tech support. I think I'll go over now and do the same thing. I bet you have big collections of stuff like I do- and it can be very irritating! Frankly- I wish V5I had a better browser- the pictures are often so TINY that you barely know what it is. Like my RDNA plants- I can find them WAY BETTER using Poser Pro Pack's thumbnails than using Vue's. In fact I think V5I's browser needs an OVERHAUL with bigger thumbnails, etc...

I am losing even the Vue original plant dirs as well.
This is getting serious. My Vue 5 I ran like a charm till the Cornucopia store opened.

I have wiped and reinstalled and this still occurs as well as constant lock ups. Support? 20 tickets enought?

I agree...it is very serious. Vue is like cannabalising itself.....It's brought my mat construction work to a complete halt. I make something and then Vue turns around and eats it...... It's really making me angry.....

Mystery solved......my bad.... At least as far as the materials I was making. It seems that I was using a portion of a modified function from the original Cornucopia.....it was just one fraction of a function and modified so that I didn't correlate it anymore to a Cornucopia mat. It was enough to taint my mats and have Vue dispose of them.....

Monsoon ( ) posted Mon, 17 October 2005 at 3:05 PM

Bummer....spoke too soon.... Just made 7 new mats that had absolutely no function parts from old Cornucopia stuff..just my own jpegs and standard Vue functions. Vue ate them all up the minute I turned them into a collection in the browser...... )(&(&*()!!!!

Well somethings funny. I placed a Vue Plant I bought from the Cornucoplia store (used install after downloading). Now, Vue 5 I has wiped my Plants directory! If I reinstall and DON'T add the bought plant, all works fine. But add the purchased plant, and walla, Vue 5 I eats the directory .. wipes it off the face of the map.. totally EMPTY!

How bizarre....something's definitely wrong here. I'm seriously considering a reinstall and dropping anything new since the beginning.....it's very difficult to get one's work done.

Just got an email from Eon and the problem has been acknowledged and will be fixed forthwith. Until then, one can only use the file browser to load homemade mats without losing them. Great support response time and effort....thanks Eon!!

Thanks for following up on this Monsoon! I just got an email from E-ON saying that a LARGER thumbnail render option for VOBS is an idea they like and will consider implimenting. I think they realize that creating big collections of VOBS, materials, etc. is an important part of the Vue user experience and that it is an area they need to pay closer attention to...

Monsoon ( ) posted Tue, 18 October 2005 at 9:11 PM

And I agree wholeheartedly. I enjoyed your thread about the other browser also. Being able to see what we're trying to find is essential to any Vue work as the collections of parts grow HUGE in no time.... Again, I really appreciate Eon's prompt response and attention to these matters.....shows that what we do is important to them as well.....

Well, Im parking Vue 5I untill a "working, bug free" release is forthcoming. I cannot reinstall every other day and still have my Vue Directories "eaten, wiped, and erased" for a reason unknown to me. It didn't happen until I installed plants purchased from Conucopia store. Now EVERY plant, even those included with Vue 5I is continually erased. Support tickets? Don't even ask how many. E-On , you win. Enjoy my three prior payments for 3 of your products. Never again.
