THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Doorway - Riddick art anyone?

Hey...anyone know of a "book of art" from the movie "Chronicles of Riddick"?

I've seen that movie a number of times now...and am just blown away by the art that makes up the look of the Necromongers in the film.

I made up this quick doorway frame-like thing, while thinking of the Necromongers.

I think I'm gonna have to do a lot of DVD screengrabs off that movie...

From the Riddick director; "The initial design team we put together including [conceptual designer] Matt Codd and [illustrators] Tim Flattery, Brian Murray, Steve Burg and Daren Dochterman was top-of-the-line, says writer-director David Twohy." *Trying to find these guys online perhaps. Also, Todd Cherniawsky [set designer]. AS

One of may favorite flics. Not a deep thought film but the sets the effects are superb and there are some interesting character actors in it too. I have the DVD saw it a number of times.

Check the link for a laugh:) OK Dann-O we get the picture lol. Nice design there A.S. like that texture for sure. I do a lot of screen captures myself. My last image was based on a capture from the movie "Impostor", great idea hey! Look forward to seeing what you do with it. P.S. Congrats on that feature cover mate;)

I never intended to make art.

Cool doorway. And it can easily be used as windows/walls as well. :) A guy named Holger Gross designed the necromongers with the help of reference images on european churches. Check out a ton of gothic architecture to boost those grey ones. :)

Yeah, I found an article interviewing Holger Gross. (probably the one you are referencing, perhaps) ;o)

I liked Riddick in 'Pitch Black'. When Chronicles came along I was blown away by the fact that someone had made a sequal that was better than the original. I'll have to watch it a few more times though..Chronicles was way too fast for me.....LOL

Bryster,

Well I watched "Pitch Black" first too, and liked it enough to buy the DVD of "The Chronicles of Riddick" - and you're right, it IS better. Hey, nice texture on that stone AS, where did you get it from?

There was definitely a gothic feel to the movie. This looks good for a start.

it's been a constant prescence on the Premium Channels..;) If I had the skills, I'd try to do the armor for a Poser character, but to be honest, I don't, and there's so many different ones..;) That 3-headed thing shouldn't be too hard to pull off with Daz Studio and Bryce, tho..

Have you tried here, AS? Haven't explored the site, but there may be something there you can use.

Oh yeah, tried the site, very small pics. ;o( Sans2012 - My other article in 3DWorld Mag, thanks. I don't know if they will be asking me to do anymore, lol. I met that magazines editor at Siggraph, and I think I scared him to death with getting him a little lost on some WAY seedy streets in very downtown Los Angeles, lol.... FranOnTheEdge - the stone on the texture is just a Bryce DTE mat. Kinda brown and boring in normal light. AS

"FranOnTheEdge - the stone on the texture.." (Man, I am just a little rainman today, or what....?) Lol, If you mean the texture on the ground, its just an image of black asphalt, with the reflection placed to about 50%, and the metalicity ramped up to 100%. Gives it a kinda wet/reflective look. AS

No, I did actually mean the "Kinda brown and boring in normal light." stuff. I'm afraid the ground didn't really register with me at all - which now I think about it, is exactly the kind of ground you sometimes need - well, often need come to think... So I guess now I mean BOTH. gg

Ah, one of my all time favorite films, got tons of screen grabs from it. The matt painitings were done by Dylan Cole of the planet surfaces, cities etc. Check the Gnomon WorkShop site for others that have worked on the movie.

As I am hip-deep in two other projects, I won't be able to do anything with this door/window for a while. Click on the link to download the whole scene file. (from that last image post I made) The image texture for the ground, and the door/window, which is a 2048x2048 terrain, makes the zip file download a bit big (5.3Mb) Enjoy, and use the model and/or mats however you kids wish! :o) AgentSmith
