Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 10 10:34 am)
If you're new to Poser, I would recommend that you try the included figures first. Later, if you find that you want to do other stuff which can only be done with other characters, or which can be done better with other figures, then you might try the DAZ figures (partly free), Project Human (free), or Anton Kisel's figure(s), Apollo Maximus (& his female counterpart, which should be coming out sometime within the next year).
Yes, I type run-on sentences. :)
It depends on what you're looking for in a figure. The DAZ figures have a ton of free & commercial add-ons available, like clothing & morphs. Apollo Maximus has a more realistic look and has more versatile morphs so that you can do more with less morphs. It has a gradually-expanding set of add-ons available. I'm not familiar with the Project Human figures, but I'm pretty sure they're free.
Apollo Maximus is most definately not free. He's pretty expensive for somebody just starting out with Poser. But if you eventually decide you need more out of your figures, you could look into getting him. Apollo's creator, Anton, has said that there will be sales for him in the future, so you could keep a lookout at Runtime DNA, where he's sold.
The Vicki 3 base is free so get that Then buy her face and body morphs which are alot of fun to work with I would also get the DAZ Bikini for her which has a matching set of body morphs. Then I would go to the Renderosity store and buy 2 character textures, There are a bunch of really high quality characters to chose from. Get at least 1 clothing model, depending on what style you like, again there are tons of really nice clothes for her and then 1 prop set (a stage for doing renders against, like a castle or sci-fi lab, depending on what you prefer) Keep in mind that Vicki 3 has been out for a couple years now and I imagine that DAZ has "Vicki 4" "in production" ?!
Well..I personally like M3 and Sp3 the best. Most people don't like M3 for whatever reasons but I do. He is well supported and I like the way he looks. SP3 I think, might be the best female model that I've worked with. She bends well and is well supported, the only thing is that her head morphs aren't good enough for my tastes.
-Morbo will now introduce the candidates - Puny Human Number One,
Puny Human Number Two, and Morbo's good friend Richard Nixon.
-Life can be hilariously cruel
M3 and V3 have the best support, and you might look into Aiko too. I've found that she can accept both V3 and SP3 texture maps with a little work. There is alos a ton of free stuff out there for her, and she's better built than V3. David is a nice character, but count on almost zero support for him.
Apollo right now is still less expensive than similar quality figues with the same content, but. RDNA's November sale starts in November and he'll be 50% off for another month.

Also APollo's CLothing Volumes, have all his morphs, something no other similar Poser figure has. Also the items all mix n' match and layer. Similar quality clothing for similar figures add up to much more.

Linda, lol I am not offended. And please no need for me in 3rd person. :) Just considering this forum is mostly newbies and you made your recommendation, I just don't see why you felt the need to specifically re-post and disrecommend my suggestion of APollo. But watever. It is what it is.

I'm sorry I've upset you.:( I was only giving my opinion from one almost new user to a brand new one. Had I know I would offend or upset anyone, I would have kept my opinion to myself. I've deleted my posts.

I am new to Poser and interested in building my library of character textures. With so many options (V3, M3, David, Miki, etc), I am wondering which figures are the best to begin investing in (buying clothes, morphs, etc). I am quickly realizing this can be expensive. So, in your opinon, which are the best base-character investments to concentrate on making? M3 and V3 seem hard to work with so I am leaning toward the Poser 6 characters. What are your thoughts?
