I'm not sure about other brands, but my Toshiba has an optional adapter to stick special Toshiba HDs in my DVD bay. Unfortunately, I can only use specially made Toshiba HDs for it, I can't just pick out any HD. It also means I can either have a only second HD or a DVD burner, but hot-swapping minimizes that hassle. You might want to check out all the documentation you can find and see if this is an option. A second HD is the best solution, but laptops are not designed with expansion in mind and a second HD is probably not possible.
While I use a desktop, the files I end up using tend toward the GIG range... a couple are 6.8... not long ago, I added an external HDD... this helps a lot, but even with usb 2.0, it's a little slow... one of the things I learned early is to use purge OFTEN... this helps to keep things moving... ALSO, PS doesn't like to be on the same partition as the OS.... it can cause problems like, "Oops, we have encountered a problem, and must shut down..... have a nice day"... one thing, if you use undo a lot, beware of just how often you purge. Good luck.
"..... and that was when things got interestiing."

I currently use PS on my laptop, but of course I have only one HD. I would like to utilize the scratch disk feature more efficiently, but that would mean having more than one drive. Is it possible to use a flash drive (or USB drive) as a scratch disk? If so, what would be an optimal size for the drive to be?
