MiachelAngelo ( ) posted Sun, 23 October 2005 at 12:11 PM · edited Thu, 30 January 2025 at 9:02 PM

Well, I finally instaled Poser 5 OS X.... I downloaded a figure from the free downloads section, I decompressed the file.... and then... I have no idea what to do!! :-( Looking for info about my problem I read about something called MacConverter or MacInstaller that was needed to add new figures and props to Poser 5 OS X? Could anybody help me or point me to the right direction THANX :)

List the filenames you got when you unzipped the file. There are several experts here who will know what to do. Otherwise, just put them in the same folders in which you find files with the same extensions.

MiachelAngelo, Unless you have one of several Mac file-moving tools, you'll want to do what's called a "manual install" of your figure. If your decompressed folder has multiple folders inside of it, you'll want to move the contents of these folders into your Poser Runtime folder, in the same relative places. So, go to your Applications folder, to Poser 5, and open the Runtime folder. If there's a Geometries folder included with the files & folders you got with your figure, try opening that folder and dragging the contents into Poser's Geometries folder. If you get a popup message saying "An older item named '[whatever]' already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it with the newer one you are moving," choose "Stop." DO NOT CHOOSE "REPLACE." Then, open whatever folder it was (both in your decompressed stuff and in the Poser Runtime) and drag the contents from your decompressed folder into the folder in Poser's Runtime. Repeat this process with any other folders or files you got with your download. Generally, things in the Geometries folder and in the textures folder need to be in the exact same places that the content creator put them. Other stuff is more flexible, but they do need to go somewhere in the folder intended for those kinds of items. Cr2's and crz's go under "Character" (which is under "library"), pp2's and ppz's go under "Props" (which is also under "library"), etc.

thank you for your assistance :-) Well I'm gonna start from the beggining, downloading a new figure: 1- I chose to download Winnie V3 a stand alone item. (WinnieByDiNeerG.zip) 2 - I decompressed the zip file, and in my desktop appeared a folder named RUNTIME, inside that folder there are two folders: one names LIBRARIES and the other named TEXTURES. what do I do now? :-/ THANX :)

Did you download and install Victoria 3 from DAZ3d.com? The base is free, but the head and body morph packs must be purchased.

MiachelAngelo, Randym77 is quite correct about Victoria 3. Not all of the Free Stuff items are labeled correctly. If you see "Notes & Requirements" on any of the freebies, it's a good idea to click on them. But in case you've already downloaded Victoria 3 or just for future reference, here's what you would do: If you already have your decompressed folder open in the Finder, you need to open another one. In the second window, go to Applications > Poser 5 > Runtime. You should see folders named "libraries" and "textures." From the stuff you decompressed, drag the contents of the libraries and textures folders into the folders of the same name in your Poser Runtime folder. If a popup window comes up and asks you if you want to "Stop" or "Replace," choose "Stop." The reason you don't choose "Replace" is because it would erase everything that was originally there. Let's say that it asked you if you wanted to replace the "character" folder. After you choose "Stop," open both character folders. Check to see if there are any other folders of the same name. If there aren't, move your decompressed files from the first characters folder into the second characters folder. If there are still folders with duplicate names, keep opening them on both sides until you don't see duplicates. Then you can move your decompressed stuff from the first folder into the second folder.

Well kdoug Thanx for the advice, I downloaded Victoria 3.0 Base, its was free :-) more info: File name: ps_peo36_V3.exe ps_pe036_V3.sit Product name: Victoria 3.0 Base Now I gotta install the Victoria 3.0 Base, then?

KDoug ( ) posted Sun, 23 October 2005 at 7:27 PM

Yep, you would install the Victoria 3 Base with the .SIT file for Mac OS X. It has an installer program so you don't have to do anything manually this time. Remember that Victoria 3 Base just has very basic morphing capability and no clothing or textures. Most of the morphs in Free Stuff need the DAZ morphs to work (which you need to pay for), but they often come with textures, too. Only occasionally will you find a free morph that doesn't depend on DAZ's morphs. You'll have better luck finding free clothing for her. There's a fair amount of stuff out there, but it depends on what you're looking for.

OK I've installed teh Victora 3.0 Base sucessfully Now, how do I install the Winnie V3 stand alone item? 1- After decompressing the Winnie V3 file, on my desktop I have a folder titled RUNTIME 2- Inside that folder there are two other folders, one titled LIBRARIES and TEXTURES 3 - I tried putting the entire Winnie V 3 RUNTIME FOLDER in Poser 5's RUNTIME FOLDER, I opened the program but I can't see the choose Winnie figure option 4 - I also tried putting both the folders inside the Winnie v 3 RUNTIME FOLDER in separate Poser 5 folders.... I dragged and dropped the Winnie V 3 LIBRARIES folder in the Poser 5's Libraries and the Winnie v 3 TEXTURE FOLDER in Poser 5's TEXTURE FOLDER, but no sucess until now... what am I doing wrong ;-(

randym77 ( ) posted Sun, 23 October 2005 at 9:28 PM

You have to start with V3. Winnie is not a complete figure. She's textures and morphs for V3. So you'd look in the Pose part of the library. If you installed it right, there should be poses that apply the textures to V3. There is also a pose that changes her shape (an INJ pose). You can't use that unless you buy the head and body morph packs.

MiachelAngelo,

I guess an illustration would help you better understand the process. I downloaded Winnie V3 so I can guide you through it more properly. The correct way to install is to drag the CONTENTS of the libraries and textures folders, not the folders themselves. In this case, the author has made their own folders that shouldn't already exist in your Runtime folder. So, you can drag them over.

Here's how you would install the morph poses (which you can't use with just the V3 Base) and the texture poses (which you can use with just the V3 Base).

Here's how you install Winnie V3's textures.
