Subject: Free cars? And a re-importing problem...

RyanSpaulding ( ) posted Tue, 25 October 2005 at 3:18 PM · edited Sat, 11 January 2025 at 2:55 PM

Hey all, does anyone know where to get some free autos that will import into Vue 5 I nicely? Not some McLaren or Ferarri...more practical models... If not free, low cost? Also, I'm importing my models via ACad 2006 (3ds) and when I make a geometry change to just one part of it, I have to reimport the whole thing again. I then lose all of my texturing I had done and it replaces it with the solid colors again, irritating the piss outta me. Anyone have any ideas?

All (or mostly) in Lightwave format and import into Vue very well.

Planit 3D has lots of free cars, mostly 3ds format.

To answer your question about the geometry import deal, don't re-import it, if you are using Vue 5 Infinate you simply overwrite the old model (when you export out of ACAD) and Vue will maintain that link, so when you update the export of the model Vue will ask you if you'd like to update the model, you say yes, and then it will prompt you if you want to replace Vue's textures with the ones in the source file and you say no, that's it, that's one of Vue 5 Infinate's handiest features, I've been using it and always hate when I don't have it at home (esprit version).

Now see...I'm confused...I've tried doing this with poser files, but when the newer file is brought in, the textures that I tweaked or changed, revert back to the ones it came with from poser. I HAVE gotten the message about a newer file and updating, but NEVER get the option to replace Vue's textures or not. Is there something I'm doing wrong??

Not that I'm aware of, there's nothing you're supposed to have to do to get the prompt for textures. It's possible this feature is different when it applies to poser objects, I've never tried it before, you might post to eon to find out if this is a bug or a feature.

I'll try that. Thanks. :)
