The Firefly rendering engine in Poser, combined with the powerful & user-friendly Material Room, allows users to create images of incredible complexity. As with most rendering solutions this comes at the cost of extended rendering times. As Poser does not have a built-in network rendering solution this generally puts the final rendering of long animations outside the reach of most users. Sixus1 Media & several of their clients use Poser in many of their projects and Poser's inability to thread rendering tasks across multiple machines was an unacceptable situation resulting in the request for the Pose-Net Network Rendering solution by P6 FX Group. Originally developed for solely inhouse & immediate client use, the Pose-Net software has been tidied up and extended for general Poser users.

*Please Note: The Pose-Net Server and Client(s) must be installed machines each with a valid installation of Poser 6. Plainly stated, every computer that is used in the network rendering set-up must have Poser 6 installed to work.

Key will be generated manually and sent via email. Please use a valid email.

This version is PC only. MAC is being tested and developed

Very cool. When I get a 2nd computer, I'll get this app :) It might be a while though :(

Small Clarification: The Pose-Net Server does not need a license of Poser to install against, only the Client. This means that one can use Pose-Net as a stand-alone "batch rendering" solution if one only has a single license. I will also be putting up a quick tutorial on how easy it is to use Pose-Net later today (it's still morning in Australia grin) --Eternl Knight (Developer of Pose-Net)

See...that is what happens when a non-programmer tries to explain and describe software :) --Rebekah--

Rebakah, it is not about you being a programmer or not. It is about being an Aussie!!!! :) Grin.... Umut.

You might very well have a point there; ;p There is a reason that he is running the tech support on his baby and I am not. :) --Rebekah--

Hey Rebekah, check your IM. I have a message for you. Cheers, Umut.

Hi Rebekah, Cool idea! This is probably a dumb question. But does every machine on the network need it's own fully licensed copy of P6 (thats to say with it's own individual serial number). Or is the same copy of P6 with the same number allowed on each machine in the network ? Al

Eternl_Knight ( ) posted Sun, 30 October 2005 at 4:31 PM

I can field that one, sparky. Every client installation (and hence every PC that will perform rendering) will need it's own licensed copy of Poser. The Pose-Net Server does not need Poser, but each 'client' uses a Poser instance, and Poser's internal licensing functionality will not allow multiple instances with the same serial to be run on the same network. Pose-Net is an "add-on" to Poser; meaning that you are still bound by the Poser EULA (that is, Poser can be installed on multiple PC's with the same license - but only one can run at the same time). --EK

Thanks EK. That could prove incredibly expensive!

Eternl_Knight ( ) posted Sun, 30 October 2005 at 9:00 PM

Well, compared to other rendering solutions out there, it comes out relatively cheap. For example, the renderer used by DAZStudio is free only for the first license. Subsequent licenses are $1000 per hit. Aside from your "open source Renderman" solutions - I do not think you'll find one with P6's capability at near the same price. That, and I believe there is possible "corporate licensing" available from EFrontier (it is mentioned in the EULA). Pose-Net can also be used as a "batch rendering" mechanism even with one license. --EK

Ajax ( ) posted Sun, 30 October 2005 at 11:46 PM

Just to confirm - Poser actually has to be open and running on all of the machines (except the Pose-Net server) at once in order to perform network rendering?

Ajax: Yes, as the Poser renderers (not to mention PoserPython) are not available any other way. NOTE: Pose-Net can be setup with just one license as a batch rendering solution and can scale up as you add Poser client's to the network. --EK

Ajax ( ) posted Mon, 31 October 2005 at 2:36 AM

Thanks EK. That makes sense. It's a shame Poser doesn't have some sort of equivalent of the Vue render cow, where only one machine needs the full version of the software and the others have a small version that does network rendering but can't be opened as an independent application. It might be worth liaising with EF to see if they'd consider making something like that - after all, the firefly render engine is effectively separate to Poser anyway.

I think carrara also has network rendering without requiring a separate carrara on each machine. Love esther

anyone know if this is still available?  It's been recommended to me by a few people, but none of the links I've been sent for info on it seem to work

semidieu ( ) posted Mon, 17 July 2006 at 1:29 PM

sixus1 has stopped their Poser products... So i don't know if this one was with those stopped products (but some were bought by E-Frontier).
