I saw mention of a thread for ghostly or Halloween stories so I thought I would start it off.

Legend has it that while the church tower stands, there will always remain six witches in Canewdon.
Every time a stone falls from the tower, one witch will die and another take her place.
When the last witch dies the tower will fall.

Or for others

The church tower was built buy Henry V to celebrate his victory at Agincourt. The churchyard, with its scattered, leaning gravestones and dense vegetation, possesses a strangely subdued atmosphere. It is said it is haunted by an old hag, who was long ago executed for witchcraft and who now returns on Halloween much to the consternation of the Essex Constabulary who cordon off surrounding roads to prevent the hordes of ghost hunters who have been known to make pilgrimages here on the night of nights. Canewdown was once renowned for its witches, and any woman seeking membership of the sinister sisterhood, must dance round the church twelve times at midnight, whereupon the devil will appear to perform the necessary initiation.

And every one said, 'If we only live,
We too will go to sea in a Sieve,---
To the hills of the Chankly Bore!'
Far and few, far and few, Are the lands where the Jumblies live;
Their heads are green, and their hands are blue, And they went to sea in a Sieve.

OOOh cool work Richard!Okay.I don't have a pic to go with my story,well not a pic that's worth uploading...but I do have a story. I live in a house that's one hundred years old.Which is nothing to you Europeans...but here it's something,lol. Anyway,shortly after we moved in,I started to hear footsteps at night.My youngest,Megan,at the time was just over a year old.And every night,just as I was falling asleep,I would hear little footsteps padding down the hallway towards my bed.Then they would stop and I would 'feel' them come to a stop just at my head.Even with my eyes closed,I could feel that presence,right next to my face...and of course,when I opened my eyes,no one was there.I always thought it was Megan.But she was never there.But that's how real the sounds were and how 'real' that presence was.You know how if you close your eyes,and someone gets real close to you,you can still feel them there?Well it was like that...You could FEEL it.Any way that always left my hair standing on end,when I would open my eyes and no one was there.I HEARD those little footsteps!And I even know they were in feetie pajamas! I was never 'scared',but it was,uh,a bit freaky. So finally I did what all the books say to do.When it happened I would tell him,'go to the light.I'm not your mama...'.And eventually it stopped.Also,I moved my bed so that our feet weren't pointing out the door,(bad feng shui).I don't know actually why it stopped,but I can tell you,it was all very very eerie.I wish I could explain just how weird that was...Hope in some way I have... So that's my Halloween ghost story...
