I have been entering the Halloween contest here at renderosity since 2001. This year I thought I had developed enough as an artist to have a shot. But to no avail, I didn't even place as a runner-up. Please, view the link to my composition and give me some constructive suggestions on what I could do to improve. Thank you, Aaron

You aren't the only one sweety. I didn't place anywheres either...so you are not alone. I figured mine were pretty good as well, but when it comes to these things...I guess we are just outnumbered by more fabulous artists than ourselves. Sorry you didn't place anywhere in the contest! Nice image by the way. Maybe next year I will throw something crappy together and maybe then it will place somewhere...LOL Ooops...sorry!!!;o( I am not going to suggestive on your image. I think that you did a great job and all art is beautiful in its own way even if it doesn't win anything.

Aaron, First of all, great image! I wouldn't worry too much about it. You enjoyed composing it, didn't you? :-) One observation, not a crit, but it doesn't look like a typical image you'd expect from a 3D app. It has a more painterly "feel" to it. If the judges are more inclined to 3d, that may be the reason for less than the hoped for results. Not that I'd change what you've done. ;-)

Well I thought your image was nice. Have a look at all the winners and place getters though and you will see what kind of stiff competition you were up against. Sometimes it just depends on the mood people are looking for or there is a certain type of appeal you need to go for. I have to agree with pablo though, maybe a more 3D based thing would come out better next time....

Only your mind limits yourImagination. Let it free.

Hey, thanks for a link to an image I likely otherwise might have missed. Very Goya-like lighting!!! Don't let a percieved negative keep you from seeing the positive! You created something pleasing and got experience out of it to boot!

To what others have already said I have to add that those contest have many entries and it can be extremely difficult to judge them and pick only a few to be the winners, I doubt your picture wasn't picked because there is something wrong with it, but there can only be so many official winners... I like your image, the idea is great, it has a style that is different. I would have like to see it a bit smaller though because right now in order to see it, with my screen resolution, I have to scroll down a lot at the bottom, I don't know if most people have a screen resolution that high that they can see your image entirely without having to scroll at the bottom...

I think it is a great picture...and the very fact that it looks painterly is a big bonus IMHO...it looks different and as a whole you have put it all together very nicely...but! (always a but ;)), it is miles too big for web viewing. You are not ble to view the whole image without scrolling and I think it loses a lot of impact. Cheers
