--Heh! Yes, this is a "joke"- but maybe not really at all "sci-fi"- just read this- "It's a revolution in how we think about software," Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates told reporters and industry analysts Tuesday. "This is a big change for...every part of the ecosystem." Gates emphasized that neither Windows Live nor another service called Windows Office will replace the operating system or other popular applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets, sold on disks that are installed on individual hard drives. Windows Live will be offered for free and try to make money from the rapidly expanding online advertising market that has been fueling the explosive growth of Google and Yahoo Inc., providing them with the financial and intellectual firepower to challenge the world's largest software maker.Attached Link: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9261372/
December 20, 2006, E-On announces "Virtual Earth" software.E-On announces support for On-Line "Virtual Earth"...
"The releases include tools to build specialized products for its localized search function called Virtual Earth, which will allow results from multiple searches to be layered atop a single map. The tools will be free to some developers, in a bid to jumpstart interest in the developing technology."

Oh god, my worst nightmare is becoming a reality! I don't want things to change! Keep everything the same as it is! I don't like change! -what about people on dialup? lol cool stuff, Veritas... Is there any news about Vue 6 in general, or just that it will be online?
"Walk down the right back alley in Sin City, and you can find anything."
You really shocked me. These online verification systems worry me. Think about needing an internet connection to be even able to start your software (as was done with Valve and Half-Life). You need to invest in a really reliable internet provider and if the network is overloaded, you may not be able to use your software. Brrrr. What a nightmare...

Above link is what has Bill Gates REALLY SCARED! (heh)"This is a big change for...every part of the ECOSYSTEM."
---Bill Gates
"Includes tools to build specialized products for its localized search function called VIRTUAL EARTH"
---Microsoft
...When Bill Gates gets interested in GIS-... WATCH OUT!
Next- he might just BUY E-On for Vue's Eco-Systems- and make them part of his On-Line Virtual Earth-- OR-- maybe just to make Vue 6 part of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2006-
the "High Resolution, Real-Time Ray-Traced version" for 64 bit Windows---using Vue's instancings, object substitution and baking technology!
(Of course, ESRI might buy E-On for Vue's technology, and then Microsoft will buy ESRI! Nice, neat package, that way!)

Scary ideas you produce here... Vue is my one of my most frequently used programs. Hard enough to afford in the first place for me - and now to imagine having to pay for every single use (which companies would love you to do, surely) wincing at the thought alone no thanks. BTW: Will you get in trouble for test rendering an image containing nudity at that stage? ;-)
