Subject: Need help on grouping please!

I am trying to create a partial cloth out of the GIRL catusuit. For example, instead using the transparancy, I want to cut away just the pants portion of the catsuit. I think I can create a dynamic prop using the grouping tool, but would this a right way to do it?

I did this by creating new groups for the pants portion of the catsuit, exported it, and imported it back again. However, when I run cloth simulation, the groups starts to tear apart from one another. I would really appreciate if someone can help me on this. Thanks

You have to make sure that you have "weld body parts" selected when you export, and "weld identical vertices" checked when you import. Also, after importing, use the grouping tool and get rid of all groups except for one containing all of the polygons on the entire object.

Thanks for your reply. I did check the weld on both export and import, and also deleted rest of the group other than the entire group like you said. But it still tears at the seams where groups are joined. Is it because it's not welded properly?

When I created each group at beginning, this is how I did it. Load the catsuit, click on the hip, click on grouping tool, create new group, and create prop. I did this to the rest of the joints for pants portion. Exported it by checking on all the newly created props, and clicked on all the check box including weld body part seams, except for the very last check box. Did I do anything wrong here?

That explains it ... By creating individual props from the parts you want to use, Poser sees them as separate objects and that may be why it doesn't weld the identical vertices. Instead, load the original catsuit in. Choose File > Export > WaveFront OBJ. When the hierarchy dialog appears, check ONLY the body parts you want to export. Weld body parts when you export and reimport.

Ahhh, I feel so dumb right now. Boy, I sure did manage it to make it very difficult, didn't I?

One more question, if I want to cutoff the unnecessary parts (that are within the the body parts), could I get rid of them using the grouping tool after I import the prop?

Whew, thanks so much!

Yep, just make a group containing only the polygons you want to keep, and spawn a new prop from that.
