DoomedProphet ( ) posted Sat, 05 November 2005 at 4:51 PM ยท edited Sat, 01 February 2025 at 6:57 AM

Greetings A few of the Poser posters in Renderosity have decided to get together and try to write an online book called Poser for Noobs Wed like as much help as possible, because most people look at the manual for poser and end up becoming even more confused when they started It would be nice to be able to help them out with a source for answers thats written in simple language. If youre interested in contributing or have a question/hint/advice just send us an e-mail with the following format in the header (please);
Question: (Put type here i.e. Posing, Lighting, File Location, etc.)
Hint: Same as above
Advice: Same as above.
Contribution: Same as above.
Well try to answer questions as soon as possible and well try to get in touch with people who want to contribute as soon as possible too.
Thank you for your time :)

The book won't be for sale. It will be free for all. One should not put a price on knowledge, it devalues the knowledge.

I, for one, would be happy to contribute. But may I suggest that you contact Geep as (at least) an advisor? :-)) I can (probably) contribute some very simple stuff on a) the Cloth Room, b) the Materials room and c) general do's/don'ts regarding workflow. I am not exactly a newby (or a noobie), but have worked with Poser on and off for some years. OTOH, I've only produced a few scenes that I was happy with (and have never posted anything in the gallery). So I have some experience which may help the totally new-and-confused types, having been there, done that, regretted it... If I can be of any help, that's good. If not, then that's OK too, just not as satisfying..:-)) Cheers, Diolma (PS: Geep is on holiday just now, touring Southern USA.. Don't know for how long..) But the idea is a GOOD one:-))

Ya all should have taken his class 'Inside Poser' for P4, ProPack, P5 & P6... it was a 6 week course that was really terrific. Though i'm a P4/ProPack die hard, I now have all the info for the other versions. Best $25 I ever spent. BillyGoat

Really would love to see that and try to contribute as much as I can, although my knowledge is still limited.

I am 150% in favor, since it will allow the experts to refer to the book instead of answering the same questions here every day. Butttt ....... How do you get them to read the free "Poser for Noobs" guide, if they don't read the free manual, if they don't read Geep's tutorials, if they don't do a search, don't read the FAQs, etc.?

diolma ( ) posted Sun, 06 November 2005 at 3:52 PM ยท edited Sun, 06 November 2005 at 3:54 PM

LOL! Mateo....

Ans:
a) Get 'rosity to change its TOS (no answering of noob questions except by point to such-and-such).
b) Head-but the noobs who persist 'til they give in.
c) Go round Personal-like to their dwellings and threaten their nearest and dearest (or their more imtimate parts if they have no "nearest/dearest"), to convince them to abide by the new regime...
d) ... there is no d)..

:-)))

Somewhat more seriously,
If the book works, then yes, it should be a great (and much needed) reference. If it doesn't, then Darwin rules...

Cheers,
Diolma

(Edited to remove some of the more illiberal suggestions:-))

The goal of the authors will be to have a resource that we can point people to when they ask a question that falls outside our area of expertise...
