It seems to be a secret, but SR2 for Poser is available at eFrontier now. (And too bad, it does not work if you used a different install path than the standard path. I think we had this for SR1, too.) But the bug fix list looks promising, maybe even binary morphs will work now.

Hello, Curses! We were going for the stealth release but the cat's out of the bag now. :) Actually it was just released about 10 minutes ago. The above link is correct and we're excited about this one. There's a lot of great stuff in it. Details can be found on the landing page. Thank again for your support, e f Steve

Thanks for the heads up guys. I have Poser 6 on my "G" drive, and SR2 installed straight away, with no problems.

Hi Dimension3D,

I never install to the standard path and the SR2 still works fine for me. What path exactly is your installation at? Are you on Windows or Mac OS X?

Depending what I did before installing SR2, I see either of the two scenarios below:

  1. I install to a non-standard location and then install SR2. I have attached a screenshot (Non-standard-Install-Path.png) of the dialog I get in this case. I hit OK, and everything installs fine.

  2. I install to whatever location and then choose to rename the folder that Poser is in. Then I install SR2. In this case, the updater doesn't know where Poser is and asks me to locate it (see 2) in Non-standard-Install-Path.png). I click OK to launch the directory chooser. In the directory chooser, I double-click the folder that contains my Poser.exe. Afterwards, the new path shows up in the text field on top (see 2) in Non-standard-Install-Path.png again). Once I hit the OK button, the installation runs fine.

Does that help you?

Uli

kuroyume0161,

if you have installed the content updates already (the two files on top), you don't need to re-download or re-install them. In that case, you should only get the SR2 installer. If you don't have them yet, go for all three.

Thanks, Uli! Wasn't certain if these were a new set of updaters to go with SR2 or the previous one. :)

The SR2 installer found my Poser path (it's on drive G), as uli_k shows in case 2, but when clicking OK, it says it can't find Poser anyway. I tried several times, but always the same. Finally, I had to install a new Poser 6 and applied SR2 to this fresh version.

According to my first tests, binary morphs now work for props. (I guess I will write an utility to convert the whole runtime to binary morphs, because otherwise they are still rather useless.) Copy picture is fine now, too. And there are several other improvements. Just when rendering, the top and the left line still aren't rendered correct.

I'm getting some weird stuff with the installer also.... (The Poser 6 Service Release 2 requires Poser 6 which could not be located on this system.) (You may proceed with this installation by manually locating Poser 6.) (Poser 6 could not be found in this location.) Will work on it some more tomorrow:(

I'm confused...not unusual at 4 in the morning I'll admit ~lol~ I have a directory in my Poser installation G:Program FilesCurious LabsUpdaters to which I download any updates. I put SR2 in there, opened it up, it found my installation and updated it without a hitch. I'm not crowing or anything guys...but I don't understand where the installation problems you're detailing are coming from. Maybe you have to open it on the drive you have P6 installed in??? Just a thought.

Hmmmmm......it popped right into place here. Updated my P6 installation with no problems at all. Not so much as a blink. P6 seems to open up faster out of the gate. It seems to respond faster, too --- based upon an extremely brief tryout. But I'll probably take a week or so to test it out first before I make any judgements, and post them here. Barring any glaring issues.

Worked fine for me, my Poser is installed on drive D: and changing the path was no problem :) I agree with Xenophonz - Poser seems to open faster and opening the separete runtimes seems also faster. Fixing that "Bump map values are now interpreted correctly in raytraced reflection"-problem yesterday would have saved me hours with my last image ;)

Netherworks ( ) posted Wed, 09 November 2005 at 11:24 PM

Okay, had to install Poser 6 again to the Program Files (blah blah) and then was able to update my "real" installation.

Fails to update my version, which is installed in the right place. I am getting pretty sick and tired of this company. Every single updater that they produce either can't be downloaded or won't install properly. It's time they hired some programmers who know how to program and hired some testers who know how to test! 0 out of 10 customer satisfaction rating from me.

Same problem. I copied the P6 world from its usual C:Poser 6 to the supposedly required C:Program FilesCurious LabsPoser 6 and still nothing. Seems to be looking for Poser 5?

I'm NOT going to re-install P6 fresh and
then re-jigger all my runtime folders.

kuroyume0161 ( ) posted Wed, 09 November 2005 at 11:53 PM

And all of you with failures are extracting the exe instead of running from within the zip archive? I've had some difficulties doing the latter in the past. No problems here, but then Poser is installed in the Windows default (C:Program FilesCurious LabsPoser 6). Time for e-Frontier to enlist some odd configurations to test their installer.

I had to uninstall Poser 6, move my downloads folder full of installed content to a safe place, delete the entire Curious Labs folder tree then reinstall P6 from the CD in order to get this f***r to install. So, the boys and girls at e-Frontier have done it again!; causing the absolute maximum inconvenience to their long suffering customers. It's obviously a thing with them - make life hard for the customer and that'll bring 'em rushing back for more ;)

stewer ( ) posted Thu, 10 November 2005 at 12:39 AM

I copied the P6 world from its usual C:Poser 6 to the supposedly required C:Program FilesCurious LabsPoser 6 I think it would be better to first try the place it was installed to. Otherwise you have a mismatch between the registry entries and the actual file location.

uli_k ( ) posted Thu, 10 November 2005 at 12:53 AM

Ockham, the text field in your screenshot still shows 'C:Program FilesCurious LabsPoser 5'. Maybe you re-installed Poser 5 recently? Please double-click on your Poser 6 folder under Curious Labs. Once the text field shows 'C:Program FilesCurious LabsPoser 6' (you can also type this in manually if you prefer), click OK. For clarification for other users: in general, it doesn't have to be 'C:Program FilesCurious LabsPoser 6', it is supposed to be whatever your current Poser 6 location is. That means the the path of the folder your Poser.exe is in. Once that is specified right, the updater should run fine. It should not be necessary to re-install Poser 6 before applying SR2. And yes, kuroyume0161 is right. Please unpack the .exe from the .zip file first. Running from inside the .zip file might not work. Thanks, Uli

Installed with no problems for me. Disappointed to see that it didn't fix the problem I'm having with exporting animations to image files, (they only partially render before moving on the next frame) but I'll try again after re-installing Poser entirely. Probably something corrupted on my own computer as opposed to an actual Poser bug. Anyway, thanks to e-Frontier for this ... I read the fix list and it appears y'all have been working very hard to cover a wide variety of issues. Much appreciated!

One interesting little feature: something about how it handles extra material zones in a MAT pose. Now it asks if you want to use them. One obvious instance: the different material zones for the legs on DAZ's Aiko 3 and Hiro characters, which replace the single material zone on earlier Unimesh figures with three. I've already seen texture sets which have an extra MAT pose for the three-zone leg, but you still get the redundant all-leg material loaded. This could be useful.

Installed without probs, got the screen that Poser 6 couldn't be found, directed manually to my fdrive and it was done.

Extracted from the zip but it's just not recognising Poser as there - which is it's defaul location. I think I'll wait and see if they fix it before I try a full re-install of Poser. That's just too much of a hastle for me to think about just now.

Win XP. Fixed IP, no running virus scanner, no firewall.
Found correct Poser directory immediately and asked if I wanted to install in F:Poser 6
Downloaded, unzipped, and installed here in less than 4 minutes.
Can't complain. :-)

The only fix I was hoping and waiting for is the one that would make transparent or semi-transparent objects show up in the document window when I select Texture Shade but it is not there. I still have to use Cartoon with outline. ;o( When I got SR1, I still had Poser 5 installed and I couldn't install SR1 until I uninstalled P5. I got the same message as in post #19 here. Now that Poser 5 is no longer installed, it worked fine with SR2. They changed things that didn't have to be changed (for us users that is) like the image that shows up when we launch Poser (I preferred the original image) and little things like that, more to please e-Frontier than to fix problems. I wonder if some have their poser files associated with P5 instead of P6 in the registry.

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Thu, 10 November 2005 at 5:44 AM

Looks like I mis-read the readme. It's P6 "material collections" that are improved, not the handling of MAT poses. Loading: I have both P5 and P6 on my D: drive, and P6 using the P5 runtime. I extracted the .exe to the P6 directory, and the install went smoothly, no problems. Yes, P6 is the associated program for Poser files on my system. Initial reaction: loading is a little faster, and the new opening image is a pretty trivial thing. I suppose that putting e-frontier on the copyright notice is essential for non-programming reasons. No other useful comments, but I see that Lightwave import/export has been improved, up to v6 now. More a bugfix, it seems, but I hadn't realised Poser had caught up. There's a lot of freebie LWO meshes out there, and some didn't load into P5.

P6 SR2 and Shade 8.1.2 at the same time. Busy aren't they.

Puntomaus ( ) posted Thu, 10 November 2005 at 6:42 AM

No problems with the installation on WinXP. Clicked on the exe, it asked if I would like to install Poser 6 Service Release 2 into the Poser 6 directory found at d:poser6, I clicked yes and it installed. Poser 6 is opening faster now. It was already fast before, but now it takes even less time :-) "The only fix I was hoping and waiting for is the one that would make transparent or semi-transparent objects show up in the document window when I select Texture Shade but it is not there. I still have to use Cartoon with outline. ;o(" France, it helps when you go into the material room, disconnect the transmap and reconnect it. Usually the transparency then shows. At least it does for me.

Can somebody check this:
If you add a new camera (or pose or whatever) to a library using the + button, when you've filled in the name of the new camera etc, does the Enter button finalize? Or is that still unfixed?
Must one still click the button with the mouse to accept?
P5 did this fine, but P6 and P6-SR1 don't accept Enter, which is most frustrating.

It is written they fixed the render engine. I dunno, I am having problems now rendering. Using the settings I always use, I just see "Rendering" and for a half hour waiting (more), scale hasn't moved. Also some changes in the products I purchased here doesn't do well now. I hope they fixed the memory leak. I haven't got a Blue screen error message and reboot yet and I am using winxp. I am confused. Oh, I see they have changed when importing "Obj" file. The scale looks different now.
