Subject: Viking Hall (from Freestuff) Corrected

Evanara ( ) posted Fri, 11 November 2005 at 10:33 AM · edited Mon, 29 July 2024 at 7:03 AM

There was a problem in my Viking Hall item available in Freestuff.

In Daz Studio (3Delight) and probably in Poser 5/6 (Firefly), 'cobwebs' appeared in the doorways. This has now been corrected (thanks to Richard Haseltine who found the time to fix the issue).

The new version has been resubmitted to Freestuff and should appear there in a couple of days (or possibly earlier).

Uhm what did you do to get rid of them? I've had them appear in some of my models as well (when using booleans to make a door...) and I've never found a way to fix it...

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

Richard (RHaseltine) should be able to explain the fix (since he's the one who corrected the issue). The explanation he gave me is that he 'splitted the concave quads that caused the problem into two triangles each' in Lightwave.

The issue was that the back of the door opening had V-shaped polygons around it, something like the picture ('scuse wobbly lines), and the renderer was trying to fill in the sharp angle. In Lightwave I was able to select the two points at the base of the V and split them (ctrl-l) without losing the UV mapping, so I did that twelve times and reexported the OBJ.

Great! Next time I encounter that problem I'll just send you the file then ;o) I've tried deleting the facets in both Max and UVMapper (and Poser, using the Grouping tool) and haven't been able to get rid of them. I understand the problem perfectly, as in yes I can see why that happens, but I havn't been able to remedy it myself. hmm.. I guess it's a little overkill to actually get Lightwave just for that LOL

Depends what you want - I think the Lightwave 8 plus Vue Infinite, with a free upgrade to LW9, offer is still open - that's how I bought it. We Europenas even get the printed LW 8 manual, which I think the US misses out on. And polygon splitting services are of course available on request (as long as my inbox doesn't vanish under a pile of OBJ files :D ).
