Hello: I'm searching for help about a problem I recently got using Windows 2000 and Poser 4.02. I got a message that poser needs more memory to keep running, just after i start poser, then windows says that the program can't run and that I need to restart it. I have a dual boot system with Windows 98 and Windows 2000, when I boot with 98 poser runs pretty fine, but not with Windows 2000. I'm wondering if someone has a clue about how to solve this problem with Windows 2000?. My system configuration is: CPU: Athlon K7 1.2 GHZ Thunderbird. RAM: 1 GIG of RAM Grapics card: 3dfx Vodoo 5 with 64 MB. OS: windows 98 and Windows 2000. Monitor: LG StudioWorks 995e 19" Poser Version: 4.02 My display settins are: 32 bit true color, 75 HZ 1024 x 768 Any help will be apreaciate it :)

I have a far less powered system as you but yes . W2k will not allocate the mem as win 98 does the swapp file is not as dymamic and if things are running in the background the errors will happen.I have not had the system completly bomb out, but i have had to close poser and reopen and start over. remember win2K is NT and uses nt rules of allocation and device use so a app that uses the processor as much as the OS and trhe OS has the keys , guess who losses?

Your System Specs Blow mine away... But I am running Windows 2k Prof and Poser 4.03 and am having no issues at all. I do however get an Out of memory error when I am trying to load a Poser Figure where I haven't gotten everything configured correctly (ie in the correct folders) but it isn't a critical error the model simply doesn't load, I fix the folders and then reload it fine... I run a PIII 800 with 512 MB Memory a GeForce2 MX with 32MB memory and a Dell 19 Inch Monitor. I am also running a PIII 400 with 128 MB of Memory and a 3DFX voodoo 4 with 32MB on a Generic 19 Inch monitor with Windows 2k as well. The only differences int he systems are the 800 I am running Win2k Prof with SP1 the 400 I am running Win2k Prof no SP. The 800 I am running Poser 4.03 the 400 I am running Poser 4 I run the 800 at 1600x1200 and 32Bit Color and the 400 at 1024x768 and 32bit color. I am sorry I couldn't help you with your problem other then to confirm that Poser 4 does in fact run on Windows 2000 Professional and it runs rather well.

My first suggestion would be to update your Poser to version 4.03 and see if that clears up your problem. I run Poser under both Win98 and Win2000 Pro and so far I have had good luck with both of them. Marque

Also make sure you get service pack 1 fro win 2k. I run win2k on my system (lowly 700mhz P3) and it runs fine. I can bring up poser, 3d max, photoshop, internet all without a hitch. I've even started renders with other apps up. Also, make sure you HD isn't near full. A good defrag may hlep as well. A swap file can't be allocated unless its consecutive.

I'm running Poser 4 with Win2000 Advanced Server Edition as matter of fact. The only time I get the "out of memory" warning is when I try to open a figure or character and some of the files pertaining to the character such as .cr2, .obj or .rsr are not placed in their proper directories.

Me too, I get the out of memory error when I didn't put all the models in the correct folder. I do have a question, since I been running Windows 2000 when I save my figures thumbnails I get that grey background. I never use to get it running 95 or 98 andybody have a clue why its happening? I have lots of memory, Nvidia GeForce 32MB card etc...

Silvermaid, The gray backgrounds happen when you display settings are set to 800x600 or lower. Try bumping your screen res up a notch.

Thanks Jkeller. Hmm, I am at 1280 by 1024 resolution? Anymore ideas what it could be? Thanks.

Hey, I'm having the same problem even after upgrading to Poser 4.03. I'm so feb up with the 'out of memory' freezes in win2k, that I transfered everything to my Apple G4 system. Virus, what exactly did you do to get yours to work?

gideon ( ) posted Fri, 09 March 2001 at 11:33 AM
