"What new features can the community expect for 2006? A new version of the Renderosity Market Place will definitely be the first and most visible part of the site to change followed quickly by other site features. Overall, I expect Renderosity to see more positive change in 2006 than it has since the beginning in 1999-2000." ------------------------------ He didn't answer the question, did he?

Fish bring Prosperity...and I am an easy going Cancerian. I will Line up early this Year, and I am trying ever so hard to be a good Boy, and more than One Person has said I am very trying indeed. Hooray for Tim...I would indeed like to discuss the positive, not the negative....and We are both in the similar Business of Innovative Products :]

Now am I mistaken or is Renderosity supposed to be a artist community or a store?

In order to support the artists, the site has to make money. Unless Tim Choate is independently wealthy and has the site as a tax deductible nonprofit, and the merchants have a desire to give away their works, the marketplace is necessary as a base for the art. I don't know why anyone should be snobbish about the Marketplace...many of the vendors are also fine artists in their own right and certainly they have a right (as does Renderosity owners) to earn some money for their efforts.

Renderosity IS a store. It's taken 6 or 7 years to get to that point, but here it is.
It's also an artist site with a lot of FREE resources for members, and I imagine some high overhead.
And I doubt that Bondware has a money tree growing in the back yard.
Who could fault them for wanting to cash in on the Poser craze? If they don't someone else will anyway, so it might as well be them.
This is just one of many sites in the CG world where you can find answers, ask questions, download freebies, mingle, and all that, and yes, buy stuff too. Why not? I know there are alot of people who do like I do, and visit them all regularly, and allow each site to be what it wants to be... I don't go to someone's house and say, "I'd rather the couch be over there. Move it for me please. "

Nice site if only it wasn't so bloody SLOW so much of the time. Any chance of a genuine overhaul? Admins keep telling us about assorted tweaks being done to improve this problem, but it never really changes anything :(

I have no complaints about the MP, or the merchants..what I do have a complaint about however, is the fact that 'everything' in that interview..has to do with the MP..and very, very vauge refrences to what other 'improvments' and implimentations are being added to RR as a whole. Sure RR needs money to keep going..but thats not 'all' that is Renderosity..if it was, why not kill all the forums and just be a store? Nope, I would like to hear more on other things being done around here...not just about the MP.

"why not kill all the forums and just be a store?" Strictly realistically speaking, that's how they get the customers in - by offering some interesting reason to hang out. And the galleries, even where "advertising" is prohibited (even though there's a "product credits" feature) are the best advertising possible. Renderosity is a business, making business-type decisions in regard to the direction in which they wish to take it. I don't think anyone is pretending it's anything other than that. I've also seen plenty of examples where they do show a genuine concern for the members. Look at all the dead or dying forii here. It takes a little time to add those to the site, and they do it by request, not for a fee, in order to make the members who want it happy. They can't give everyone everything they want, or else they'd spend their whole day fulfilling wishes. Yeah, Tim said more about the MP than about anything else, but then again I don't think he started up this Bondware thing just to practice his coding.

Why would someone have their pictures presented with a five oclock shadow throughout? Looks bad. Maybe a point is being made here, Mr. Tim needs to buy razors for a good shave, so then we might understand the need for the store. Lol! Ouch! Brushing my hair out and I just hate my hair in the morning when it's a tangled mess! Pain to untangle!

Tedz ( ) posted Sun, 20 November 2005 at 10:09 PM

Well, I think He looks very Manly with the Five O'Clock Shadow ...sigh and a Close Shave is how they untangle Hair in Rio.

LornaW ( ) posted Wed, 23 November 2005 at 7:52 PM

Yeah well, maybe you have a point. I found out recently that my boyfriend seems to like it better when I don't shave my armpits! Lol! It's a European thing. Now, if he starts telling me to stop shaving my legs, I'm going to have a real problem with that one!! Lol!! Blast! Fluffy my dog is in heat again!! Better go save my pillows.
