You could probably throw a dart at your monitor and chances are,you will hit a thread where someone is asking for this bell, and another one asking for that whistle. Similarly...you could throw another dart and chances are,you'll hit another thread complaining that this site is so slow. It times out,unresponsive,inefficient, and even goes down completely from time to time. Perhaps folks should realize,is that implementing more of these "enhancements" on the site,is likely to cause the site to become even less responsive than it is now. "I'm begging for enhancements out of one side of my mouth,and complaining that the site is slow out of the other side," Hopefully the new Bondware 3.0 Tim was talking about on the front page, will resolve some of this.But in the mean time....be careful of what you ask for,you may get more than you expect. ...and yet, somehow other websites manage to host better forum software and still run acceptably fast. People rarely seem to ask for anything that's not already available elsewhere. Hell, why not just download PHPBB2 and sort it all out? :) I'm choosing to believe that Renderosity's site developers understand the consequence of adding the various requested features. Well, perhaps we shouldn't ask for new features then if Rendo's programmers and/or software architecture can't do it? Just a quick note the homepage "Warning: we've reached the limits of our programming / software architecture. Don't ask for anything new unless you want the site even slower than it is now." will do.

Ever heard of a Cigarette that was only Filters? Recently there was a Request (being looked into) for a "Nudity Filter" in the CC Forum, for a "Swear Word Filter" (being looked into)in the Photography Forum ...but not in regard to "wtf". From Filters for Cats...(those that are allergic to viewing) to Filters for those that use "Post Work" ...even Alien Filters, and Gigantic Breast Filters. The "Hot 20" in Photography, has been successfully replaced with the "Last Week in the Gallery" Filter....now...does not matter how many votes You get....because...now...only the Staff do the "Selection"... a very successful Filter indeed. I have not asked for any Filters...though I am working on My Own "Filter"...which will Block out "Prayers in the Forums". In reality...I guess it must take up much valuable time...for those in the position of having "valuable time"... to molly coddle all these Filter Requests and suggestions from the Left and Right...and Heaven & Hell.

Ted, we'll keep our fingers crossed and say a little prayer in hopes that the new server software will finally make everybody happy.

Do other sites manage to provide efficient interaction? Yes! Is it practical under the current conditions here at Rosity? No! It's well know (at least to those who have been here a while) that the site is clunky,slow,bulky and bloated. Yet folks still request more. Shrug. Fair enough. One small point might be that inefficient site software is rarely "unfortunate" - especially when the software is itself a flagship product for the site's owners. I dunno. Maybe they don't make much money off of this place. Given the state of the marketplace that'd be understandable.

I'd wager that the "Show me only what I want to see" filter will be implemented on the site right after Poser finally gets that "Make Art" button wink

Hmmm... reminds me of a friend of mine, (a million years ago), who wasn't happy with his water supply.... kept ADDING filters to the line... water pressure went down to ten pounds, at the tap. wasn't too happy about that, either... ADDED another pump to the system... the pipes finally blew... almost 350 pounds of pressure at filters that were only rated at 125.... still only had his house pressure up to fifteen pounds, though. He DID have clean water for a little while. Lou.

The filter solution is so easy, anyone can do it, with no coding knowledge, and even an extremely limited knowledge of computers. What you do is, you click the link that says "Logout", and then close the browser, delete any desktop shortcuts, and go to, say, CGTalk or somewhere. End of problem.

Any more chastising you would like to see here for a legitimate question asked in 'another' locked down thread??

Sorry Jump but this thread was not started specifically because of your request thread. There are Many people asking for filter, that also complain of the site's slowness. I was just pointing out that those who ask for new features, should also consider that the sites efficiency is part of the price we pay for new features. In case some folks didn't realize it. My mother once told me that while working at the DMV, there was a woman whose entire job was to go through personalized license plate requests and see if there was anything "dirty, or morally reprehensible" about them. HER ENTIRE JOB WAS A FILTER - and within a month of telling me this story, I looked in my rearview mirrow and chuckled at a license plate that was 3M-TA3. No matter how many filters, SOMETHING will make it through the cracks. -Lew ;-)

it's being used on a few sites. where when you start a thread, or upload an image you create a tag. the tags are searchable. this adds to the search functionality mmensely. adding a switch to make a tag an exclude wouldn't be a hard alteration. this would slow the site down a bit, since it's an enhancement, but it covers several enhancements requested, as mentioned.

Not knocking the poster of this comment, but just pointing out: Those other sites. How many of them have a regular number of users in the realms of 2000-3000 on a daily basis. That's a lot for a database server to keep up with... (a quick look just showed me 2420 surfers ... a few mins ago it was 2800+..) It needs top-rate, up-to-the-minute software to cope with that sort of demand, and that doesn't come cheap. And 'rosity is free....... So, if you REALLY want better performance from 'rosity, go buy lots'n'lots from the marketplace. 'Cos that's the only way they make any money to afford upgrades..:-)) Just my 2p worth (that'll not hlp much tho) Cheers, Diolma
