Subject: Poserworld Content for Mac?

tvining ( ) posted Thu, 17 November 2005 at 9:27 PM · edited Wed, 11 December 2024 at 7:45 PM

Is it me, or is the content on Poserworld either corrupted or all for PC? I've used Macconverter on the files which sometimes fixes the preview, but trying to actually use the files almost always crashes my Poser software. Are there any Mac users who are having success with Poserworld? Thanks--T

Tim are you having problems with files from elsewhere, ours are standard Poser 4 files so you shouldn't have a problem, infact yours is the first time we've had a problem installing files on a mac after suggesting maconverter......which OS are you using BTW i think (its a vague memory mind) someone mentioned that if you have one of the newer OS's that you didn't need to convert the files, another thing to suggest is use macinstaller to place the files......I'll be honest though i'm hoping someone with some max experience will help here coz i'm about as much use as a chocolate fireguard.........Steve

I can't remember having any problems with stuff from Poserworld in P4, P5 or P6 (Poser 4 running in Classic). For Poser 4 I used Maconverter and for Poser 5 & 6 I use fmorgan's utility to make png's if there aren't any in the zip. Then I usually install by hand as I like to rearrange my library files, but lately I've also been using ditto (search in the Macintosh forum here for info on this). Do you have enough memory, and if you're running Poser 4: did you give it enough memory?

Never really had any problems

When running Poser Pro Pack under OS 9 I had problems with many Poserworld files because of all the textures that had longer names than would be read. But no problems when running Poser 6 under OS X.

Hmmm got a bunch of Poserworld's wonderful creations on my MAC computers...never had a problem. If I might suggest though Steve, my advice would be to manually load them. -jay

The first thing you should do, is copy all cr2 and add a "____NOMAP.cr2" to the end. Then open the duplicate cr2s in BBedit. Do a "find" for all ".jpg", ".bum", (and sometimes ".png", ".pict", ".tiff"). Replace the texture names with "NOMAP". It's a nightmare, I know. I suffered the missing textures issues for so long... I didn't know it wasn't like that for everyone. Poser6 on OSX mac does not have problems finding textures. It's AMAZING how fast things open! Whoa! bB <-- who's in the habit of removing all textures from figures, hair, and props, and removing all MAT files from the pose library since they're worthless in OS9.

(I'm using a Dual 1ghz G4 OSX10.3.9.) Hm, I got fmorgan's Mac Converter and that fixed some of the png thumbnails, and I was able to get some of the files to work, but a little hit-and-miss, i.e., the Spacefleet Officer for V3 worked, except for the thumnails on the MAT files; the Sneaker Boots didn't work at all; the pngs for Sport Set for V3 worked, but it crashed Poser 5 when I tried to open them; the Combat Boots for V3 worked fine...I guess I could be doing something wrong, but I don't know what...--T
