As I said we'll take this step by step. The first thing that I can see with the model is that it will need more polygons. The arm for example does not have any annular subdivisions. There is nowhere for it to bend. At it now is it can only animate like a broom stick.
Try either adding more subdivisions, or if its easier recreate the arms and legs with a couple of shorter cylinders for each limb rather than one long one. You may also find it best to center the model. When you've done that email it me again and I'll go to the next step.
@mikachan: LOL! Typos (I do 'em all the time - it's one of my better points)..

Just FYI...
After you post, for a limited time (15 mins, I think), you can edit the post. Look at your post after it resurfaces when 'Rosity has taken it in, digested it and .. errmm .. regurgitated it, and on the "post" line there'll be an option to [edit] (right next to the option to [delete]).
Click that (and wait while 'rosity chews the cud) and you'll be able to:
a) See you post as it appears;
b) see your post with all of the added HTML stuff which completely throws you off;
c) Edit the HTML version (not the screen version) and repost, replacing your original post..

(Just to prove a point): Edited to add: PhilC will be able to work wonders with your mesh, and get it to do what you want. But might I also advise you to check out Dr. Geeps tutorials? He does a LOT of stuff using Poser only...

You next need to assign group names to the different parts. You can do this with the Poser grouping tool. I find it very much easier to use UVMapper. Select using a rectangular marquee and assign to a group. I find it best to stick to the conventional Poser group names.Now STOP!
Click on the Translate/Pull tool. Or in fact ANY tool that is NOT the Bone Creation Tool. If you don't you'll be like a painter with a wet paint brush. You will be dripping bones everywhere you rest the mouse.
Use the drop down menus to select the bone in the hip area, probably called "bone_1". If you use the menus rather than a click in the window you are much less likely to disturb the bones. In the properties panel edit the internal and external name to match the name you set in the OBJ file. In this instance "hip". After you type in the name hit the Enter key to make the change active. I always edit both the internal and external name. If I want to change the external name I can do that later when its "safe". Continue with the chest and head.
Now using the drop down menu select the "hip" bone. Click on the Bone Creation tool. Think of it as a hot soldering iron, don't click it down where you don't want it to go. Click the CENTER of the hip bone and drag down and slightly to the (screen) left to about the right knee area. Mouse release then click and drag down to the end of the right shin.
Now STOP!
As before switch to another tool. From the drop down menu select the hip again. Pick up the Bone Creation tool and create bones for the left leg by starting with a click in the CENTER of the hip. Follow this by creating bones for the left and right arms, left and right eyes.
Note that the first axis in the joint order will be along the body part. In this example Poser will do that for you automatically. It is an essential point to know that the first order of rotation MUST be along the body part axis.
ok... I'm still working on getting him grouped. The poser tool for that is very difficult to use, and I tried the free version of the uv mapper, and I don't quite get it... My pic looks nothing like yours. You have a wireframe which has some of the verticies selected, mine is not a wireframe, and when I try to select something, everything dissapears

Back into the Pose Room and you can go through adjusting the joints. I don't adjust joint parameters (other than the XYZ joint order option) in the Set Up Room. I'm too busy consentrating on getting the right number of bones created with the correct names.For this model I turned off bending to the head and eyes. This makes swiveling the eyes very much less complicated. I just ensured that the eye center was actually at the center of the eye.
Golden rules of joint parameters:-
Work on one side then use the Ppser FigureSymmetry command to mirror to the other side. Save to the library and that's about it. Figure file at the link. Extract to your Poser folder. :)
Have you by any chance downloaded the trial version of UVMapper PRO? You need the one called UVMapper Classic. That one is free AND can save :o) But if you plan to do other models or textures or the like, consider buying UVMapper Pro. You CAN do most of the basic stuiff with classic, but UVMapper Pro can do so much more :o)

Ok, I have a little figure which is currently nothing more than an OBJ prop. I'd like to make him posable, but I only have Poser 6. I think I read somewhere that this is possible, but how? I cannot find a tutorial that uses only poser 6. Does anyone know? Help is SOOOOO appreciated. Thankyou!
