Nikon Model EN-EL3 rechargeable lithium ion battery packs,which are packaged with D100, D70 and D50 cams. The battery pack can experience a short circuit causing it to overheat and possibly melt, posing a potential hazard to consumers. More info at link.

Nikon makes it fairly easy. I did send a battery back today, the one that came with my D70. They provide shipping label(paid by Nikon) to print and affix to the package.
