THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: 5 to 5.5 deevolution thing

Hi, Im on a mac and I have this annoying problem with 5.5; when scenes get more complex they wont load after closing them - often they get stuck at 18, 37 or 50 %. But the scenes loads in version 5, and fast too. Anyone else who has this problem?

Real well known problem.
To avoid causing the problem most (but not all) of the time, load Bryce to an empty scene and then use only the Open/Save command from the OS menu.
I've been able to fix this problem, again most of the time, by running Apple's Disk Utilities and have it Repair Permissions and then restart my Mac.
You can also copy the file to a CD and load it from that and it's been mentioned that moving it to a new Volume ( like a secondary HD or Flash Drive) also fixes the file. I haven't tested this yet.

Files like these also load fine onto a PC.
HTH;
Dan

Or you could get a PC,..........Christmas is just around the corner.

To run Bryce? Geez, the PC "Image Textures Turn Black" is just as bad as the Mac "File Won't Load" ;-) At least you can recover from the Mac "File Won't Load" problem once a Bryce PC file is hosed it stays hosed.

Well, Im not going to get rid of my mac, i love it and you cant just change your computer but all your programs too. That is a big thing. And thank you Dan for your advice but I already work that way, I think - if "use only the Open/Save command from the OS menu" is the same as not clicking on the bryce scene file but opening it via Bryce open command. The only cure for me is to bring the problematic files in to Bryce 5 but all the stuff to play with is within 5.5.

Matsolund, if you are using 'Open' from the Finder 'File' menu and you are still having problems opening some of your Bryce files, do as Dan recommends and fix permissions on your Mac. I would recommend repairing permissions and cleaning up the system caches. Use a tool like Onyx (get it here: http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs/english.html) it keeps my iMac G5 happy... Garry

Downloaded Onyx and ran it. Didnt help. Same problem. Scenes like in this preview do not load - but easily do in Bryce 5.

PS. This kind of scene will load though. Forgot to mention: Three of the trees in the foregoing problematic scene are models, the rest 2D.
