Subject: Sooo....WHAT Photo Gear is on YOUR XMAS List?

L8RDAZE ( ) posted Thu, 24 November 2005 at 8:56 AM · edited Fri, 02 August 2024 at 2:36 AM

For me....its an (entry level) DSLR! Since I don't have any lenses, I am NOT locked into any specific brand per say, but since I own a Canon Prosumer (G6), I am leaning in that direction (most likely a Rebel XT), since I think the learning curve will be a bit easier regarding common menus and operation. (But I'm still doing my research!) Nikon, Olympus, Pentax and Konica-Minolta all offer cams of this type and each has their strength and weaknesses! I've read and reread all the reviews and specs (can you say information OVERLOAD), which can guide you only so far. User s can offer their perspective too, but until you have the camera "in hand" and try it out for yourself, you really can't make a decision as to what the best "fit" for you is! So THATS what I've been doing, every chance I get...most of the big electronic superstores and camera shops have each model on display, so you can try'em out a bit. Hopefully, I will reach my final decision...SOOON!

I got the camera last spring..now, what next? I have spent too much it seems already in the meantime..maybe some filters..or a..or a..who knows. Best wishes on your choice of camera and Santy might be good to you!

zhounder ( ) posted Thu, 24 November 2005 at 12:43 PM

All that is on my list is a Nikon D200 and 2 lenses, 500mm and 1000mm F4 or better. I have a feeling they will be on my list for a LONG time too. Magick Michael

LOL! Dunno really hadn't thought too much about it until I saw this thread... probably will wind up with more jewlery though because even when asked I have a hard time asking for anything! :) Brenda :)

Ted!!!!! what you like........... Anyway, my Christmas pressie came yesterday from Santa (AKA Irene, wife to be in 14 days....Lucky me..). A new STURDY tripod with quick release ball grip. What a piece of kit this is. If any of your saw my last gallery entry, you will know why I need this, plus a cable release trigger, in the post as we speak. As for the rest of the Xmas list, well that will have to wait. Steve

Margana ( ) posted Fri, 25 November 2005 at 1:22 AM

Hmmm.I hadn't thought about it but I know I want a light box.I'm sick of trying to work around not having one. Of course I want a better cam,but I'll buy that for myself when I feel I deserve it. LOL @ Tedz. Steve...You're getting married in 2 weeks? That's wonderful!!!Good luck to you both!

lol...you guys are crazy...hehe My Nikon is not even 2y old yet, but I'd love a new camera. Not sure what brand or model though...and I know my Baby so well today that I'd hate to start of with some new gear. But it would be cool, ya know ;)

And I want that 100m macro lens, and ermmm... scrolls up to read again Margana wants a light box thingy and a new cam of course, and ermmm... scrolls up again Oh! Santa, don't you think it a bit unfair that you gave Steven his Xmas pressie already? It's still a month from Xmas!" Ok ok, I'm getting into that bla mode like Zacko always do giggle dux I'm off to my Xmas function. You guys have a fantastic weekend and capture away!!! Zellie :0))

today i bought a f10 to make night shots( stupid thing was they couldnt deliver a second battery??), xmass is to far away. i was thingking of getting a 9500 too but the colors seem flat. so i stick with my 602 for tele and macro. also bought trainz 2006 reminds me of my youth when i played for hours with my marklin set.

for some free stuff i made
and for almost daily fotos

TomDart ( ) posted Fri, 25 November 2005 at 10:45 PM

Re-thinking it all...yes, I do want something. First, my recalled Nikon battery replaced...then a ring flash for macro shots. Maybe we could all contribute to one deserving member and send letters to St. Nick! Tedz has a genie in a bottle but that won't last...hummm...then who knows. Macro ring flash...that is it. And the time and place to try the studio stobe I have which has been here 3 mons and not used in a real way yet!!! Equipment doesn't help much when not in use! Time for that would be nice..hear this Santa? I have been a very good person this year! LOL

DJB ( ) posted Sat, 26 November 2005 at 1:13 AM

I can't decide ....a new Nikon body or a 500 zoom. (I heard they are coming out with a D70 up one model) But really want a printer that will do large images.

Santa says I've been bad...so...there's no sense in me making a list...LOL! @dBgrafix...yes, it's a D200 with 10mp, available in early December. You may also want to have a peek at the new 18-200 VR lens that's coming out...about $900 CAN.

Some ....er.... interesting posts here. :) Neat to hear what everyone wants, even if it is too much info in some cases, haahhah. I of course would want an nice high end DSLR (ala Jim) with awsome lenses and a new tripod to shoot smooth as silk photos. Alas, I will have to deal with pixel noise (ala Brian's legs) for a while yet. I'd be happy with a new camera bag to tell you the truth. Something sturdy, easy acess, that isn't too big, but can hold and protect all my stuff. :)
