Yep, no time to compose this shot properly as I was fully concentrated on the other female! and was using manual focus as servo got confused by the close wires! Not too hung up about it as another day will venture upon me!

He He thx for the illustration to the technique Jim :D Now I bet that lion has got sharp teeth :)

And every one said, 'If we only live,
We too will go to sea in a Sieve,---
To the hills of the Chankly Bore!'
Far and few, far and few, Are the lands where the Jumblies live;
Their heads are green, and their hands are blue, And they went to sea in a Sieve.

The NOISE Richard!...probably spent 30 mins there as I could sense something was gonna happen...it did!!!! also, they were the closest I have ever seen them...seems ironic but seems weird me saying this, but, they were also far away enough to kill the wires! But yer know, was staring at them for a while, and was wondering how gentle and beautiful they really are!...deceitful?...I truly think so!!!!

Another question from me...lol...Why do I love to capture wildlife, be it a Zoo or natural?...!!!!....easy!!! 1) a challenge! 2) never know what to expect! 3) never set up!! 4) pushing ones skills further!!! 4) helps one learn from mistakes!!! 5) Nature is wonderful :) As is all photography genres!...don't get me wrong, just find this area of photography rewarding, most satisfying for me. Anyone else wanna state why they have a personal pref for their photography? Be interested! ta for the time people!

incredible detail on those lions!!! Amazing to see all that detail on her tongue!! i think enjoy abstract photography the most. Why? 1) it's a challenge for me 'cause i really have to look harder than shooting what's right there in front of me begging for attention. 2) it's such a joy to find and showing something different. 3) it makes me appreciate the mundane more 'cause i stop seeing the mundane as mundane!!! LOL!! 4) when i can make an abstract image, it's like finding a treasure!!! :) i guess that's why i find it the most rewarding! :) interesting thread, Jim. Thanks for sharing!! :)

Jim, that is one sharp shot. Nice left turn on the thread, "Anyone else wanna state why they have a personal pref for their photography?". For me, I like doing landscapes, you can take the same shot over the four seasons and there all different. The other I'm just starting out in is night shots. Lot to learm there, lots of reading just lately!! Hence the new tripod and cable release. Off to practise. Steve

why do l do photography? .. well for me l would have to write a thesis on Art nature and the beautiful the mysterious, science, hunger for answers and knowledge and a biography... for me photography is a form of art in self expression ..a journey a camera a tool to achieve all this to the best of my ability..the challenge to learn that tool .. as an artist would oils canvas and a brush..a writer pen and paper, a carpenter his tools and grains of wood .l dont think technically.. l think poetically and creatively also think philosophically.. photography helps me escape and achieve answers capturing the beauty of the universe of nature, and seeing first hand the world we live in. when in full inspirational swing.. l like to take people away from the actually scene object and on a journey of inner discovery, a discovery of the beautiful, and some times to provoke the conscious,but do put all 5 questions you ask into place when doing photography...always looking for new discoveries to stimulate the intellect, and stimulating the creavtive ,the world is a completely different place through the eye of a lens...and thats the attraction also...love to study nature its habits its changes etc.. learning the instincts of wildlife etc.. just doing photography because l can isnt enough..

Now this is a hell of a capture Jimbo! I mean, ok, that tail in the way isn't great but what a moment u've captured there!! This is priceless!! :)

croxie ( ) posted Sat, 26 November 2005 at 9:49 AM

A great capture of the moment, so to speak. As for the tail, it would be there no matter if you had the camera around or not, so that's just a part of reality :)
