Subject: .Obj and .PZ3

I have a question about importing for those of you that have Poser. Do you have more success importing a pz3 scene with your characters than you do trying to import it as an obj file? Trying to decide if I'm going to buy Poser and this will be the selling point or not. Thanks in advance. Stew

Definitely - obj's (especially from DAZ|Studio) don't import very well. pz3's usually work fine.

With Poser 6 PZ3's seem to work fine for me (Vue 5I). I then convert them to .vob files after making any necessary changes.

Same here as sirrick.

Ditto with sirrick. When exporting .obj out of Poser i usually end up with half the mesh gone when importing back into Vue.Poser 5-6 has issues exporting .obj files.Maybe SR2 fixes this i do not know yet.

Thanks for all your inputs. It was enough for me to get Poser. The import worked perfectly and even took less memory than the obj. This is the scene I was trying to get into vue before. It's just rough to see if it would come in or not, still have to work on the texture and pose. In the obj format Vue would crash every time. In the pz3 format it went in on the first try. Now all I have to do is learn how to use Poser:) Stew

stew451; Do you animate by any chance? If so, and you have Poser 6, hop over to Content Paradise and check out face_off's latest Python masterpiece; Poser Physics. It's based on the ODE physics engine, and was designed to create both rigid body and ragdoll physics effects easily. And since it applies the effects to the Poser animation pallete, you should be able to import it into Vue just as you would any pz3.

Thanks for the heads up Dale. I haven't started into animation yet, but will kepp it in mind. Stew

Good to have feedback on Poser Physics. I'm new to Poser too, and still have a lot to learn, but animating is on my mind. Has anyone tried yet to import an animation in Vue that was done with the help of Poser Physics?

I'm working on testing that very thing, actually. All the ODE physics engine work is done in Poser, then baked to the dopesheet, so there =should= be no import issues.

Note the word should.

Once I get a little further in my understanding of the 'how' of PP, I'll be creating some basic stuff just to see how it goes. Well, I suppose I could test the ragdoll 'drop into a pile of mesh goo' effect now..... :P
