SO a circular polarising filter. What subjects do I use that one and which weather conditions are best suited to the filter? The blonde stricks again... :D

LMAO!!! Im no expert when it comes to that filter....im no expert when it comes to anything actually, LOL. But i just read that the perfect condition for a circular polarising filter is when you have the sun either straight to the left or right of you. Not infront or back. And i personally use it to bring out the best of the skies. Hang on....i think i have an example to show ya......just need to find it....la la la

How come we say 'It's colder than hell outside' when isn't it realistically always colder than hell since hell is supposed to be fire and brimstone?

Okay...here it is....same tower. The one on left was shot with that filter...and the one on the right without it.....you see the difference dont ya? No adjustments to either of them. Straight out of the camera. #:O)

What a difference in those two shots.Wow.

Thanks guys for the pix and the links.Always so much to learn.I always used the polarising filter on my film cam because to me it acted like sunglasses for the cam.Allowed details to be seen better without being washed out by too much sunshine... ;^)

Ok, I think I'm going to add a polarising filter to my Xmas list! Wow! I've learnt yet something more today! Where does it end?!?

LMAO! Ah blondes! ;P wELL, I never take my polarizing filter off actually. No matter the weather, it's on. I like the contrasts it gives to any shots and, most of all, it's perfect to avoid burning ur highlights in every circumstances! Well, it works for me anyway! ;) Thx for the links guys! :)

Using a polarising filter on shots taken with a lens wider than about 30mm is a singularly bad idea !

And every one said, 'If we only live,

To the hills of the Chankly Bore!'
Far and few, far and few, Are the lands where the Jumblies live;
Their heads are green, and their hands are blue, And they went to sea in a Sieve.

Wait i'm lost again whats "a lens wider than 30mm mean"? now remember I'm blonde so draw a pic if possible :D My filters 55mm but I'm sure that's not what you mean...

I mean the focal length.
Using no zoom is a small number like 20mm and using telephoto zoom is a large number like 100mm.

In practise when using the filter use the zoom lens at least some of the way too.

The filter works by removing light from different directions depending on how you turn it.

So if you have a wide point of view you inevitably have light from different directions.

The result if used on a wide pov is, and try this for yourself so you can see, that the sky will be very bright one side of your pic. and dark on the opposite side. Message edited on: 11/30/2005 02:24
