Has anyone imported any models from Dosch Design into Vue yet? I'm interested in their 3D cars, but I want to know if I'll need to do tweaking to them or how good they looked imported into Vue. Car paint can be tricky to get just right.

I've imported their Plants-Nature models into Vue- works great. Also their HDRI CD collection- does an excellent job in lighting cars and getting beautiful reflections.

For cars I mostly use the De Espona car models. There's a big selection of cars, trucks, buses, etc. of all types. --

But the cars in this thread LINK are from DAZ...

Just an FYI, I'm starting a Vue Realism site that will deal with cars a good deal. Dosch seemed to have inexpensive, low poly models...tho any info you can give me on this is good and appreciated.

TurboSquid has a number of Low Poly cars for Visualization purposes. The collections run around $75-$85- but some are in MAX format only (but one group on this link is in 3DS format- which should load directly into Vue.) BTW- I use HDR a lot for lighting cars and general architectual scenes. I'm surprised more people don't use HDR as it renders very nicely in Vue...

See, while I'd love to use HDR, I cant see how I'd implement it into my work. Having to use a set background hinders me. It's ok for objects, but I have to create full scenes...with curb, parking, vegetation. I just see myself being able to find enough environments.

Understood- rendering true outdoor landscapes would be very slow with HDR- but if your camera angle is looking down, at say a 45 degree angle, it basically creates a "set" look.

I've posted here a simple HDR render on the RDNA Roman Villa with Bountiful Knights backdrop. Obviously the backdrop is a photo- but a Vue rendered 3D backdrop could be easily substituted- either on a plane, or later in POST.
In fact, rendering backdrop scenery with Shadow Maps would match pretty well with a Fore-Ground render done with HDR.

Unfortunately not available right now to post- I have rendered Seaplanes on Vue water with HDR- which looks great and rendered much faster than Ray-Traced lights! In fact, it looks like using Shadow Maps- but you don't have the Shadow Map size issues with HDR (and with HDR you can STILL use point, fill lights, etc...)

--but I tend to do all my 3D work and photography- with Photoshop as my ultimate compositing and tweaking tool. I often merge photo backdrops into my 3D (or even use the ultra HIFI-SIM Clouds that are a Flight Simulator Add-On-
best Sky-Clouds in any "3D" application and they render in Real-Time...)

True; nice looking renders, but I think it is more a matter of taste than accuracy...as, for me, Vue's GI and GR don't look physically accurate a lot of the time. The VW Golf image you posted above Veritas is an example where I can see unrealistic lighting effects. Now, I'm not sure if this is because of the renderer or because the settings for GI or GR don't allow a user enough control for the lighting. Hmmmm, I've actually re-thought my last comment...I also notice that too many settings can affect another setting by a great amount within the options for GI and GR also...in my experience that can lead to a lot of trial and error or luck needed to get accurate results. Agiel- Yes, this is a great site for FREE cars but be sure to read the usage license: "All models in the Free Collection are the exclusive ownership of their authors or distributors and are for private and non commercial use only. Exploitation or commercial use of a model is forbidden without special permission from its authors or distributors." I do commercial work and that's why I buy car models- as I know I won't get into trouble later. However, there are some good NEW links I haven't seen before, including a website devoted JUST to CG rendered cars...

--Dudley's 1941 Chevy Truck! He hasn't had a car model for sale at DAZ in MANY MONTHS (and I buy all of his cars) and I see that this one is listed as "Coming Soon"- this almost always means that it will show up at DAZ- and since the truck is also shown with a Christmas Theme- I bet it will be VERY SOON, heh!

I am personally a big collector of 3D Classic Cars rather than modern cars. The best thing I saw for SALE on the other car links above was a Classic '67 Pontiac GTO for $39.00. However the DAZ Cars are best because they are in Poser format and lend themselves to lots of poses...

Only thing about those cars that agiel posted a link to is the parts are in french so it can be time consuming to figure out the texturing on them. Just an FYI.
