LOL. I dont have a problem viewing thumbs of photos or images....its seeing the thumbs of my photoshop-files i cant do. And also....isnt there a plug-in or something so that you can actually see minatures instead of that stupid PS-icon when youre opening a folder??? Gnight you!!! #:O)

I have several of backups on DVD, but for a quick access to what I want I also have my original files on a 80gig harddrive on a desktop that is only used for storage. Whenever I come home with a new load of photo's I transfer them to a new folder that I give a name and a date, and then I simply copy that folder over. That way I know what I have and where...most of the time anyways. As for viewing my piccies I use either file explorer or Adobe Bridge. C.

Adobe Bridge? Is that any good? Can you preview PS-files as well as photos?

Doh! I just read your first post again...and yes, you can view PS files as well since it's Photoshops own browser. You can do a lot of things in it, but I've only used it as a browser so far. The only thing is that it takes a lot of space to run...at least on my lil laptop :p
"Keep smiling, it makes people wonder what you're up to."
LOL. Yup...then i mean photoshop-files. Okay so Adobe Bridge isnt a stand-alone app then. I havent upgraded to CS2 yet, still running on CS. Thanks for the info C. #:O)

Ooops...looks like we crossed. I would think i should be able to use Photoshop as a browser as well...seeing how it is indeed Adobe-files im viewing...but it doesnt work when im viewing my external hard-drive. Then i can only see the icons. Im looking for a software that allows me to browse through any folder and show me a miniature of that file. And that also allows me to click and drag it into new folders and rename them as i please. I hope im making sense....i am swedish after all...and i dont have the luxury of leaving abroad most of my life like someone else i wont mention by name...la la la. #:oP

i've 2 copies of my projects in two different internal hard disk... same copy to an external hard drive... and a back up on dvd (sometime dvd loose data... :( ) shots are sort by month in different folders... shots elaborated go to a separate folder... a big big quantity of directories :) i keep psd files just for complicate and not finished work... i keep terragen bitmap files (every one 35mb).. and the space is never enought!
Well, Andreas...that's what Adobe Bridge can do...u can view PS files on external harddrives as well. But yeah, it takes an update to CS2 to do it. And that "someone else" do sneak back into Sweden now and then :p Just not as often as I would want to these days...

Best way: See the link above. Other way: 1. Create a folder called "Photos" 2. Dump all your photo files in that one folder. 3. Pat yourself on the back for a job well done and go have some weiner coffee. ;^]

i have several 3 folders marked photos. my most recent photo folder began Jan. 2005. inside that are sub-folders (abstracts, macros, nature, flowers, people, etc.). then i have sub-folders of the sub-folders. For example, in my people sub-folder, i have one folder called "Kemal." I have another called "nude kemal" (so i don't accidently show my folks!!!), then i have another sub-folder called "Mid-Life Crisis Band," and another called "Kyle", etc. helps keep me organized like that. then i back all that up onto an external hard-drive. I also have a place where i work on my images, and that's currently a mess. i'm in the process of weeding it out and trying to reorganize. nice thread, andreas. good luck! :)
I dont have a problem categorizing my photos or anything. All im looking for is an application that helps me view photoshop-files as miniatures so it makes it easier putting them into the right folders. #:O)

oh..
the only reason i would save an image as a .psp or .ps is to keep the layers in tact or it's a floating image that i have cut out & can apply to another image anytime.. i can't see those either as thumbs so i label them to remember.. i don't keep very many of these as they're huuuuuuuuuuge! otherwise everything is a .tif which is universal these "image parts" as i call them are kept in their separate folders away from the .tifs as well as the original .jpg out of the cam images

Ive saved every photoshop-file of all the photos ive ever uploaded in my gallery (263 + a few i deleted) and all the Simon Says-contributions...challenges....banners...3D-images and so on. So i would think i have something like 1000 photoshop-files unsorted. Yup...aloooooot of wasted space i know. And the reason i dont get rid of them is for the exact reason you just stated Cindy...i want to keep all the layers intact if i ever want to edit something....maybe i like to use it for some kind of collage or montage. I just tested the trial version of ACDSee i found on a CD that came with one of my Photomags....and it seems like a perfect application for me. Why didnt i browse those CDs before bugging all of you...i now see loads of different apps provided on those that i can try. Thanks for all your input though. Much appriciated. #:O)

@Andreas.... In PShop...go to "edit" then to "preferences"..then to "File Handling"...then "Image Previews"....select "Always save" BOOM!...your psd's will now show with an icon of the image. Although it will likely only apply to those Psd's created AFTER the setting change. Hope it helps.....

Oooh! Thats great gradient. Thanks alot, i will surely do that. #:O)

Hey everyone! Through the years....(well ive only been photographing for about a year...sounded better though) ive taken quite alot of shots. And ive also saved every Photoshop-file i ever made. So now i have tons and tons of unnamed and unsorted PS-files that i would like to organize. I was wondering if any of you use some kind of catalouge-application you might recommend. Ive tried Photoshop Album and using the browse function in Photoshop but neither of them seem to be able to create a thumb of files that are located on an external harddrive...or maybe im just not doing it correctly. Ive heard of ACDSee...anyone ever tried that one or something like it? Thanks for your time. #:O)
