I don't buy lottery tickets... why would I enter such a contest? Also, when there is significant money or equivalent as prizes, the cheaters come out in full force. You will need independent judges. If you have a compelling theme, decent judges, open range of media, you will get entries, despite a small entry fee. However, if you posit it as a lottery, not that many people will want to just throw away money. Carolly
nope it's called a lottery if you need to pay, not a contest.

Well, in terms of a lottery, you just giving money away and see if you can really win something. We have a similar thing here in South Africa. People cue up every Wednesday to throw their money away, there's no work involved. Now with a contest, you put down a small amount of money and submit your artwork (Your best work) to stand a chance to win money or prizes or even a showcase on your work or something. What I would like to know, would people concider entering a contest with a non-refundable submission fee to stand a chance at winning a larger cash prize. I've noticed that people are more willing to enter contests that have no entry fee and get something out of it. It's still the same principle but the curency is different (Your artwork). I mean, if your were to submit your work for a contest, are you real sure that you will win. It's still the same principle at the end of the day. It was just something I was curious about. Was doing some research regarding contests in general.
There are lots of contests which involve fees. Like in architecture contests for designing museums, etc etc, worldwide, prestigious. Usually the fees cover the material you need to have, such as rules, blueprints, etc etc.

It occurred to me that, if I were a cunning and devious individual, I would sponsor an art contest in which there were entry fees, and of course I would dream up some vaguely plausible reason to justify the fees. then I would arrange for one of my pals to be chosen as the winner, provided she split the cash with me. since I would have implied beforehand that the judging process would be 100% opaque (for some vaguely plausible reason), none would be the wiser, and we'd be free and clear to keep pulling this scam until some clever dick uncovered our nefarious scheme.
if the fee was to limit the entries to "serious" entries, then the number of entrants should be limited, and the prize should be bigger than the sum of the total collected from the fees. Or something like that, I think...

Truthfully, I'm not too fond of the idea of a contest with a panel of judges. I like what we have here... everyone looks, and if they feel the urge, votes. I LIKE the idea of interested people looking at what I have to offer, and would spend a buck-fifty to enter IF what's being shown is being shown to the general, interested, public. Lou.

Just a quick question. If you were to enter an art contest, Would you pay $1,50 non-refundable submission fee if you knew you stood a chance of winning a prize of $15,000.00? Just curious as to how many peeps would do such a thing. Any takers? Anyways. Laters Ciao :) -- =D :) :headbang: :) =D
