I downloaded the, well, download version. And it started calling all my Digital Carvers Guild plugins 'old'. So I am waiting for Eric now, and using the beta untill he posts another update to the plugins (And Julien from Inagoni.com)

Cool, glad to see people getting the final. Eovia really threw in some nice extras over what the beta had. Hopefully the plugin guys will have everything ready soon. I look forward to experimenting with the translucency on leaves. The light inclusion list is something I have wanted for a while within Carrara, I use it a lot in Lightwave. Accessing the smoothing properties of objects within Assembly is another nice feature. Again, something that I like and use often in Lightwave. I am starting to see a trend here. Carrara is starting to really catch up with the big boys. In some areas completely surpassing them, especially with the flexibility of the surface replicator. The volumetric clouds are tops, especially at this price point. The VM is actually productive for me now. Kudos to Eovia and to all the hard work put in by the beta testers. Thanks guys!!

Hoofdcommissaris,

We're still waiting on an updated SDK for the final release. I did get one that was after they added translucency. Anything Grows looks great with a little translucency.

This was a 5 minute experiment with Anything Grows and translucency. I also used Anything Goos to make it more translucent near the edges and less in the middle of blade.

I should be able to post most of the plug-ins shortly after the C5 SDK is finalized.

I purchased the buy C4 std get C5 deal. Anyone know how I would be able to get mine? Are they going to do a chronological email thing? I only purchased a few weeks ago. Paul g

Same question as Paul. I saw the announcement at the CGSociety forums, and thought I'd be able to download C5 tonight, but no such luck. I ordered on Nov 12. A response from an official Eovia representative would put me at ease. The emphasis is not directed at Eovia.

I got my e-mail to download today, but can't connect to the server. I keep getting a "page not found" error and have been all day.

Its a matter of the amount of purchases. I don't think they were expecting the volume they got:) They are releasing the download in waves, to balance server load.

AWESOME!! I can't wait to get it. I agree many of the new features in this latest version rival or surpass what some high-end software has! Then again, I recently downloaded the 3dsmax 8 demo version, and was blown away by all it can do. After a month, I wasn't even able to tap into half it's features, but it's node-based particle system had me hooked. Unfortunately, I could never afford the full version, so that's when I looked into getting Carrara. It was either Carrara or Softimage XSI Foundation. I picked Carrara, and I'm glad I did so far!

LCBoliou ( ) posted Wed, 07 December 2005 at 11:59 AM

I hope Eovia steals away sales from more up-scale software vendors. I hope they make great volume sales, because we will all benefit from that kind of competition. From what I've seen so far, Eovia deserves outstanding success. C5Pro is likely, the best 3D software bang-for-the-buck available? It will also allow Eovia to provide better development support for Carrara's future.

Rids ( ) posted Wed, 07 December 2005 at 3:46 PM

I've used Cinema 4D, Lightwave, XSI and even Maya and as an all round package Carrara 5 Pro is really catching up with the big boys. I've also used Vue 5 esprit and Infinite a lot and when it comes to landscape work C5P leaves them standing in all aspects except ecosystems (instancing) and even that gap is closing fast. What C5P doesn't seem to have is all of the baggage that comes with the Vue line which is the biggest reason in my move to the Eovia stable. I've been extremely impressed with the beta we've been playing with for weeks and now I can't wait to get my hands on the final release :-D
