I just feel that if his name is on it, The "Church" of Scientology has it's fingers somewhere in the pie.
They're not going to let their founders name be used by just anybody.
There has to be a vetting process that benefits the "church".
But potential writers, please do not misunderstand:
I'm not saying don't submit. Always submit. Regardless.
Writing is writing.
If the "Church" of Satan had a contest, and I felt I could pound out a reasonably decent story about how fresh goats blood makes your shoes shine better than KIWI polish, I'd do it.
'Course, I'd doublecheck my locks for a few months afterward.

Definitely and most certainly possible. I can't disagree with you that the possibility is there. Regardless, L. Ron Hubbard is first and foremost a pretty (I don't know if he's respected or not) well-known science fiction author. I originally received information on the contest by reading Renderosity's interview of Anne McCaffrey several months back. The judges panel is rather impressive, which again is why it caught my eye. I agree with you that it's definitely worth submitting. Now I don't know if I'd go so far as the Church of Satan personally... ;)I submitted a story to them a few rounds back. I too was hesitant for much the same reasons, but after reading the same Anne McCaffrey article, and from hearing it recommended at several S/F conventions, I decided it must be legit. Anyway, I have submitted and so far have not been inundated with Scientology mass mailings. That in itself is probably a pretty good indicator that it's on the up and up. No, I did not win. ;-) jon

I know I've mentioned this in the forums before, but I thought with one of the deadlines approaching for this, I would go ahead and post the link again. If you like to write science fiction, fantasy, or horror, you might take a look at this contest. It has four submission quarters each year, and the January 1st submission deadline is approaching. This particular contest always caught my eye, because the judges consist of already proven authors. David L. Writer's Coord.
