Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 27 9:18 am)
Re.: the texture maps... if you mean "How do I remove them from the long list that Poser loads" there's no other way to do that than to save your scene and restart Poser. For a (slightly) faster load: Remove the default figure (casula James I think) and set that empty scene as Preferred state. Check Launch to Preferred State and voila: Poser now loads with a blank scene. Poser can't utilize dual processors, as you probably know. The PMD are the external morph files, also called Instant Scene Destroyers. Be sure to DISABLE "Use External Morphtargets" or whatever it's called (I'm currently in the middle of a render so I can't check the actual wording) When the scene goes blank (it can also happen from switching from the render to the preview) resize it slightly and it'll pop back to life. It's in essence an OpenGL problem.

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.
sometimes program keep asks for "*.pmd" file when I launch it. < P6 introduced a new option under Edit/GeneralPreferences/Misc. called "Use external binary morph targets." These are your .pmds. If you delete or move these .pmds, Poser can't find them. You can quit looking for the .pmd, in which case your scene will load, but your figure will lose any morphs applied. You will need to re-inject the morphs. Do a seach for "external binary" or .pmd, and you will get more information. The bottom line is many of us have turned off this feature to avoid the problems it causes. Using these does have its advantages, but for me they outweighed the benefits. >Have you guys noticed that from time to time when trying to apply a pose, the screen goes blank!!< I have only seen this when I apply a pose to a figure that the pose was not originally made for. For example, recently I applied a hand pose made for Vicky 3 to Michael 3. I got a popup that said something like "information in this does not apply to the current figure," then a white screen for a moment, then all was well.
"- are there settings in the program that could make the program/file loading faster? I am using Pentium D dual core processor w/3.0 GHz clock + 4 GB RAM + 256 MB graphic driver." Create a dummy runtime stucture. Link it to P6. Before you close P6 switch to it. P6 should load faster on launch. Then switch back to your working runtime.
I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

Hi, I upgraded to poser 6 and been using for about 3 months now and would like to figure out the followings: - once a texture map gets loaded, how do I unload it? - are there settings in the program that could make the program/file loading faster? I am using Pentium D dual core processor w/3.0 GHz clock + 4 GB RAM + 256 MB graphic driver. - sometimes program keep asks for "*.pmd" file when I launch it. does the program create a default file somewhere on the hard disk? do you guys know where? - Have you guys noticed that from time to time when trying to apply a pose, the screen goes blank!! Thank you very much for your help.... Cheers Matrix
