The original poster has not responded the the little controversy he/she has resurrected. Plus they have point blank stated that they are too lazy to bother contacting the artist... I think that says alot about the intention behind this post.

Yes he did. He's made 2 posts in this thread. If you look at his posting history, there are a week or 2 week periods with no postings. So it could just be something as simple as work or life taking priority. It could also be that he's read the thread and found that no one else seems to agree with him, so what would be the point of him replying back further? I've been posting to forums long enough that I can recognize a troll. This person genuinely seemed upset about not seeing credits given.

I've always been the 'creditor' type, simply because my renders would look like crap if I used only stuff that I created ;) Besides, giving credit is another way of saying "Thank You" to those talented content providers while also giving out helpful info to all the noobs! Gotta tell ya folks, money definitely makes a merchant happy but, adding a "good job" or "thanks" can really make someones day. I personally love shocking the living shit out of someone everytime I throw 'em a compliment.

"86.5% of the new "Poser" galleries just pretty much say thanks for looking and not one mention of the people that made their art happen. It just burns me up that nobody can get something they like, and a merchant who worked hard on their product just lost a sale due to a huge lack of credit. not to mention in most of the read me's they ask to give them credit. isn't that like an user agreement?" The user agreements of most merchants do not state that you need to give credits if their products are being used in a render. I do understand your point, but as a proffesional comics creator, I would get into to major problems if I needed to give credit for each product being used. That would take pages..... Also I've paid for the product and often more then enough. I hardly ever give credits, at least not in my proffesional renders. BUT, at times I create a fun image with a product(s) purchased, as a thank you for the merchant. If I'm considering a product and the agreement states that it cannot be used royalty free (so without giving credits of further hassle) in commercial renders, I do not buy it. I'm not the only one doing this.... imagine advertising companies who use Poser for promotion having to state the credits. Or Architects using Poser to fill up their beauty renders of a project with people and then needing to give credit. If what you want would be reality, a lot of merchants would need to start looking for a different job soon. You may reconsider your point of view and keep in mind that there are many people using Poser and the content for commercial purposes.

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(

I credit freebies but not paid items. I figure merchants got their cut already ..but freebie makers are sinking their money and time with no payback. So saying 'thanks' to thsoe people is worth the extra moment. BUT from the POV of a a merchant .. when people credit me in galleries then it pops up when I search for my name (or my company's name) so I can see whats popular of mine and whats being used. so its 6 of one and a half a dozen of the other

SnowSultan ( ) posted Mon, 12 December 2005 at 10:12 AM

Hopefully this will now make it easier for those 85% who don't give credit to now do so. ;) -------------------------------------------- Credits: V3 by DAZ Texture by Prog or Rhiannon or Morris Clothing by As Shanim or BAT Lab Hair by Kozaburo or 3Dream Temple by Danie & Marfono or Stonemason Background image by Vali and Lori or Vali and Saiyan Sword by Toxicangel or Xurge Pose by Firebirdz or Ilona or Schlabber Blank expression by me --------------------------------------------

Here's a thought: How many product credits does it take until your image is moved to the Product Showcase Gallery? For a while now, the policy here has been to move any image where the artist gives credit to himself. If I posted an image in the Poser Forum that said "Model by me", it would be considered a "commercial" posting and moved to the Product Showcase gallery. (And, yes, it has happened to me many times.) You may be proud of that new texture you're selling and you may want to show it off, but you have a choice: post the image in the Product Showcase Gallery or don't mention that the product is yours and post it in the Poser > Pinups gallery. In order to avoid this issue, many people decide to leave the credits off their images, especially if they use their own items. --John

You know what? The more I think about the thread the more hacked off I am getting. Guy wants to know what we use to make our images, which in itself is a fair and reasonable thing to ask. That whole issue was answered in - hey, just look - post #2, to which ninhalo replied "too much trouble". Well. Skirting the edges of the TOS here and maybe even stepping over it... If it's "too much trouble" to get up off your lazy ass to IM the creator if the image, then maybe it's too much Four King trouble for me to list each and every item - most of which I paid good hard cash for - just for your convenience. Ya get me? I will very gladly answer any direct question but if you start telling me what I should be doing, I'll tell you to stick it right up there as far as you can.

If I'm in the mood to list credits: then I will.

If I'm not in the mood to list credits: then I won't.

In any case, there's no way that I'll append a novella-length credit list to every image. I can't speak for others.....but I don't have the time for that.

Feel free send an IM if you ever have a query about a specific item. Or else you can ask about the item in a gallery comment on that image.

I suspect that most artists will answer your inquiry.

to acadia's post #54 I did try to respond on several occasions this site wouldn't let me i hit post reply and it just goes to the central forum screen ugghgg. when I don't have my head stuck up my butt I drive a truck Fora living so yeah work and life do become a priority (thanks for the defence there) someone called me a troll?? thats too funny hehe. a troll slams peoples work I seem to recall I was praising peoples work however upset that there were no credits... i'm just used to the way things were on the old renderosity board before everyone patted eachothers backs and said hey so and so made this.. but as everyone has stated they were freebies we didnt have a marketplace then. on to other things..... everyone says IM the artist... well I have and did on several occasions and either I was ignored or the artist didnt remember cause the pic I seen they did awhile back..... I was just frusterated thats all.. now this thread has gone entirly silly so I'll add to it... with the going overboard credits listing microsoft poser photoshop yada yada ya'll forgot to mention renderosty for the site and most importantly ME who without this crazy thread would not have been possible :oD well I can keep on yapping but I'll end here. I see everyones point and I see I'm wrong and i definalty know better now than to vent or make an opinion public ( really didnt think this post would go so long....) oh yeah and by the way I do wear a billboard every pair of jeans I own have this leather square in the back with the companies name on it and every shirt I own has the A|X logo.. :OP

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Tue, 13 December 2005 at 5:56 AM

Hey there's nothing wrong with a public vent. Nor is it bad to state your opinion. You must just be prepared for the fact that some people may not agree with you. If you feel that "you should know better" than to start a discussion, you've got a wrong grasp of the concept of discussion ;o) And honestly... if you IM people over old pictures, please don't expect them to remember every model they have used in it. I have pictures in my gallery I can hardly remember I MADE in the first place...

You can always post a message here, with a link here to the image, if you want to know who made an item. Someone will probably know. A lot of people post questions that like that.

wrpspeed ( ) posted Tue, 13 December 2005 at 8:27 AM

i would probably post credits but I have so many items that I have trouble figuring out who I made them. The most I can do is remembering where I got them from.

XENOPHONZ ( ) posted Tue, 13 December 2005 at 10:11 PM

Yes.....I agree with what's already been said: If you are going to post an opinion in the forums, then you'd best be prepared to have your position disagreed with. It sort of goes with the territory. You seem to be a nice guy. Don't let it bother you. This is just an online forum.
