Hi Gang Since my last model i made was a while back and Phil Drawbridge would of liked his mini sub and my adaptions to be shared, i had the chance to modify my model for close inspection.( It was a very basic WYSIWYG) The model I speak of in is my gallery (Link) called ~A find in the Marians Trench~. I have totally remade the sub (Not saying Phils wasnt any good!) to a design in which i would like your views on. Other than the lights to be added outside. (it already has 2 radial lights inside). i feel a bit lost as what else to add. At this moment it stands at 83.5MB But will condensed for the freebie section when finished. Here are 5 images for better views. I hope you can help. Many thanks Marc :)

marc i like what you have done but just one little nit pick with it. The arms and claws look out of propotion for it.. the arms look a little thinish and the claws look like toy claws not chucky enough.. actually best way i can describe the claws is the look like the blades on a pair of pruning tools.. Just my opion..

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.

Hey Marc, Nice work on the sub! But I wonder something... why a sub would have legs??? it meens that this sub's gonna move really slowly.. so why a sub have heavy mechanic legs when simple propellers would be more effective? and how to reach the surface? just my opinion

marcfx ( ) posted Tue, 13 December 2005 at 5:31 AM

@CrazyDawg Totally agree with you. I have found a webpage that has these arms a lot meatier and i will be redoing them.......i was just very tired at the time and stuck my robot's arms on it...! LOL @pidjy Very good point. As my last image posted (Above) i did note that the engines have been made but not attached. Having legs does give it more strength on the sea bed (or on another dense planet) when moving heavy objects. Try pulling something when swimming and then when standing in the water, makes a difference ;) Looking back over the images posted, the main body also looks smallish, so i will most probably make it slightly bigger... List of to do's: 1; Larger more chunkier arms. 2; Body larger. 3; Add engines and rudders (They are already made) 4; Make a model without the legs. =================================== Any more ideas will be appreciated. Thanks for your input so far guys :) Marc

Sometimes Science Fiction doesn't have to make sense. It needs legs 'cause it looks cool with legs. I like it. (And it's TONS better than the original)

only thing I might add..from waay too much Discovery Channel, etc., most of the worlds' ocean floor appears to be a bit on the muddy side. You might want to make snowshoes or something, 'cause I don't know how far it would sink into it, 'cause it looks heavy..;)
otoh..you could make it a planetary explorer for space..excellent in all other respects..

Love the sub. Just a thought, but why shouldn't it have clunky arms for heavy work and these arms for more delicate work?

Very cool modeling on this Marc! I don't have any suggestions to add to those all ready made here. I agree with Phil on this one.:)

If it doesn't have enough boyancy to float up to the surface, or enough power to DRIVE up, it COULD have a line attached and be winched up onto the ship on the surfce.

It has 6 raising/lowering hook ups on the top already for just that Fran. This robotic arm I'm building at the moment is becoming very detailed and i think too detailed, but, will offer it up for viewing before linking it to the mini sub. Again, thanks for all the comments.....everything is being taken on board so to speak :p Marc :)
