Subject: OT: WARNING - series addicted

Casette ( ) posted Wed, 14 December 2005 at 2:43 AM · edited Tue, 03 December 2024 at 5:53 PM

Hi folks I'm sick. I was a Poseraddict. Well, I go to Poserholics Anonymous meetings and now sometimes I leave my computer and I can sleep daily one more hour (5) But now I have a new trouble. You know, here in Spain we watch all your series. Our americanized tv showed from Mission: Impossible to Dallas, Mork and Mindy, Kung-Fu, until all the Cheers, Sex in New York, Friends, CSI, etc etc. But with age I'm becoming a gourmet. I don't watch everything but only series which sometimes catch specially my attention. Over all, because my rendering schedule (ouch! I'm an addict, I'm an addict, I'm an addict) allows me a reduced time to watch tv. My videotape recorder is broken and I never remember to carry the tecnical service to repair it. And I hate commercials. So... in the last years I only consumed a few products. Twin Peaks, X-Files, Will & Grace... But all this finished. I'm a seriesaddict. Internet kills the tv star (paraphrasing the Buggles song). It started with LOST. Spanish tv show LOST first season. I say: "...and?". I surf the net looking for info. And I find a forum, and... I found a forum of LOSTaddicst. They gave me all the info. Now I'm watching the series at the same time than America (desesperately waiting to next episode in january 11th). I've watching THE 4400 first season (second season in few days). I want to watch TAKEN. ANGEL. ALIAS. PRISON BREAK. INVASION. Too many series, too little time Four hours again. Coffee, more coffee... I'm an addict. But... I have a lot of fun :D

I went a period of about 4 years with very little TV watching. I maybe logged 2 to 6 hours a month, sometimes none. Early last year I started to have health issues and started to watch more TV. Gradually one show turned to 2 and then 3... I don't just sit and watch TV though. I don't have the attention span to do that. I have to be doing something while watching. Cleaning (then I just listen and stop to watch the good parts), computer/poser, cross stitch, reading... The shows I try to watch when they are on are: CSI CSI: Miami Law & Order Law & Order Criminal Intent Law & Order Special Victims Unit Charmed Will & Grace Reba Two and a Half Men Criminal Minds Without a Trace Grey's Anatomy Rescue Me L Word Other shows that I like, but have no idea what day they are on, so I only catch them if I see them in the onine guide: House Nip/Tuck NCIS I also enjoy wataching the old classics: Bewitched Gilligan's Island I Dream of Jeannie Three's Company Golden Girls Shows I refuse to tune into? Anything reality based.

Acadia's list except gotta have "Numbers" in there somewhere. Not much for classics unless we're talking MASH.

LOL ... good to know I'm not alone on this. It starts on monday with LOST, Numbers, CSI New York, Criminal Intend, Crossing Jordan - yep, I have to tape some of it since it's shown on different channels at the same time. Continues on tuesday with CSI Miami, Desperate Housewifes. Then there is CSI Las Vegas on wednesday and DeadZone, followed by Law and Order on thursday and finally friday Cold Case, Without a Trace and Missing. I am so glad that there is saturday and sunday to give me a break ;-)

Khai - I'm a House addict too - and I agree it's probably Hugh Laurie's finest piece of work to date. I also like CSI (only the Vegas series though), Stargate SG1, Law & Order Special Victims Unit etc. Old classics I like - Orignal Series Star Trek, Babylon 5, Mission Impossible (absolutely hated the first Tom Cruise MI movie - turned it off 15 minutes in - didn't like the fact that the director & star hadn't got a clue that the series was about a team, Tom Cruise just ain't James Bond, but this was the impression they were seeming to give.), all the old Gerry Anderson series (Stingray, Thunderbirds, Joe 90, Captain Scarlet etc.), oh and Sky TV's Hex (blows away Buffy, has more intelligent plots, is not a monster of the week show the way Buffy was, has well rounded, believable characters (Not the carboard cutouts that comprised the main group)). Shows I won't watch :- reality TV, Alias (tried to introduce too many plots too quick), Angel (David Boreanaz cannot act) apart from Season 5 when Spike turned up, X-Files (too environmentally friendly with plots & ran too long), Friends (One joke plot which ran too long )

ChuckEvans ( ) posted Wed, 14 December 2005 at 8:31 AM

LOST - the only show I watch live! Others get recorded on VHS and commercials skipped. Wifey can't understand why I go on and on about Kate (wifey just thinks she's nothing special). Of course, being equal oppotunity, sure wish I looked like the doc (of course, wifey gets juiced up at Josh Holloway...well, I guess he's no slouch). It has a strange plot that keeps you guessing. I knew it was going to be a hit after 2 episodes...just glad it wasn't on "cancel it quickly Fox" who got rid of my FIREFLY too quickly!

Khai ( ) posted Wed, 14 December 2005 at 8:40 AM

Criminal Minds is really starting to get my attention... oh.. have a Housism! House: Sorry, up late: Internet porn. Chase: How come you aren't in your office? House: Because there's a computer in my office, and if I log on, romance will ensue - my wrist might fall off.

I am addicted to the following:

The X Files
The 4400
CSI
CSI: Miami
CSI:New York
Numbers
Monk
Law & Order
Law & Order Criminal Intent
Law & Order Special Victims Unit
Without a Trace
The forensic files
Cold case files
The new detectives
problem is that some of these come on at the same times...sigh..so I miss episodes here and there.

I've noticed that Television Network execs in the good old USA don't seem to like drama that's too cerebral - I get the impression, that if they could get away with it, all you'd have on TV would be wall to wall soaps & Jerry Springer type programs. I was royally pissed of when they cancelled Crusade (the follow on to Babylon 5, like Firefly it was cancelled midway thru the 1st season, before it'd had a chance to find its' feet. Firefly wasn't too bad a show, not lowest common denominator TV like Buffy & Angel were. Like Crusade, there was an on going storyline which hadn't had time to develop properly and some moron of a TV exec went and cancelled it. It does seem that TV execs both sides of the Pond don't seem to like Science Fiction (They don't seem to like anything that makes you think), after all the Moron who's now Director General of the BBC went and cancelled the BBC's biggest selling program of all time (Doctor Who) in the 90's.

Strange... nobody is watching ROME? I 've seen the first 8 episodes and they are fantastic, one of the best series i've watched! I also liked Babylon 5 very much, that is the seasons 1-4, the fifth left me with a bitter taste..

Yup, I'm watching ROME, very well made series. apart from the adventures of Lucius Verenus & Titus Pullo it's very historically accurate (right down to the graffiti on the walls). The acting is top notch, & it's just that bit shocking (but the sex & violence are mean to, to give the viewer an idea of what the Roman Empire was really like. This show is comparable to I, Claudius for the excellence of the writing & acting. I wonder if the series will go all the way to the crowning of Octavian aka Caesar Augustus as the first emperor. BTW I wasn't that impressed by the final season of Babylon 5, apart from the very last episode, it suffered from the absence of Ivanova (Claudia Christian was sorely missed).

sbertram ( ) posted Wed, 14 December 2005 at 11:02 AM

The trouble with LOST is that it's a JJ Abrams show. I'll never watch another. Every time I watch one his shows I get hooked on them, and then the show spirals out of control, and I end up hating the characters I once loved. His shows always have a really strong start and then end up flaking out. All my friends are hooked on LOST, but I figure if in 5 years they still say it's good, then I'll get the dvd's and give it a shot. Not before. That's what happened with Smallville, and I think it's a great show. It had a very slow start though, imho.

kot23 ( ) posted Wed, 14 December 2005 at 11:57 AM

What I really liked in babylon 5 was the continuity of the plot, the greater theme with the Shadows. **And of course, the use of CGI! Some ships designs and effects were very inspired! I think it was the first show to use so advanced 3d graphics at that time. **And, yes, kosh too!

Moonbiter ( ) posted Wed, 14 December 2005 at 12:12 PM

I'm a LOST nutter. Have been since the first episode. I hadn't watched any TV show since Dark Angel was cancelled. And I just happened to take a break from the PC when it came on and the wife was watching it. I've been hooked since.

Quote - nobody is watching ROME?

I think I saw the first episode and I liked it. However, I tend to not really pay attention to what days things are on (I use the online TV guide and look to see what's on that hour). So because of that I tend to miss episodes.

TV has been sucking bad for 5 years now. There are very few things worth watching, imho. So few things, surf clicking click click click

...that I've discovered Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. I love it. Don't call at night, I won't answer. Too busy watching Adult Swim. ;)

I also like Comedy Central's fake news Daily Show and Colbert Report. Too funny.

Other things worth watching are PBS Tuesday's Frontline and Nova, CNN, Mystery Diagnosis on Discover Health, MadMoney (does that guy need to lay off the coffee or what? lol!), and the VH1 flashback-type shows are fun. .. Ooo yeah, MythBusters! I LOVE that show!

Criminal Minds is incredibly good. I've been watching the original CSI since it started. Of course then there's SG-1 and Atlantis along with Everwood, One Tree Hill, Simpsons, Boston Legal, all the Law and Orders, and American Idol (when it's airing). We've watched all the Star Treks since last winter, Farscape was amazing also. Currently we're watching Babylon 5 and Ranma 1/2. We also spent a night watching all the Matrix movies and more recently Lord of the Rings. But... everything we watch is time shifted.
