Subject: Comments on Artist's Work

frogster ( ) posted Sat, 17 December 2005 at 12:14 PM · edited Sat, 10 August 2024 at 4:31 AM

Hi, I have a question. I have noticed with alot of artist's pictures that it seems that people shy away from leaving comments. A person might have over a hundred hits on his/her art work but not one comment. Is this becauce the art work is so bad that no one wants to say anything or is it that we don't want to take time to say anything? I have seen some great art work by different artist but not one comment. For myself when I don't receive a comment I feel sometimes maybe I'm not that good and should do something else with my time, and It may be other artist might feel the same way. I might be out of line saying this and I hope I didn't offend anyone but I just had to ask. Thanks

It happens to everyone from time to time. My last 4 images, for example: 372 views, 31 comments 540 views, 9 comments 173 views, 9 comments 367 views, 8 comments Makes no sense so I enjoy the comments I receive and move on.

Hi im not sure why that happens think it has to do with your, popularity or so. Mine last 6 image's had: 473 views 4 comm. 471 views 0 comm. 371 views 0 comm. 455 views 5 comm. 296 views 0 comm. 414 views 0 comm. So they look @ it but dont leave a comment thats life :} On the other hand i got more people who added me to ther FAVO artist list and that counts for something. AND !!! a thumb nail thats interesting makes a lot of difference. So the thumb makes them look ... then yeah who knows. Don't get upset about it .. i'm a DJ/mixer aswell Sometimes a Mix from me is downloaded 3000 times and 0,0 reactions on the mix... thats a lot more depressing ;} Chris

I am a human resources trainer for a living and have taught classes in giving feedback. One thing I have learned is that people like to receive specific feedback because it is most meaningful. When I leave a comment, I try to say something more than just that I like the post - I say specifically what it is about it that makes me feel that way (the color combinations, the composition, the lighting, etc). Just a thought to share with those who do post comments. Take a moment and leave more info - I am sure it will be appreciated.

Thanks so far for the feedback. I agree with Seattletim. Also I don't mind if someone tells me that I might need somework on something or info to make me a better artist. We should not get our feelings hurt if someone trys to give you some info to maybe help you out. And I thank any of you that has tried to help me in the past. Thats how we learn and grow in our art.

Seattletim - I'll try to be helpful if I can, when posting a comment but sometimes it's not always possible for me to do the mental gymnastics to say why I like something. Maybe it's my nature but often I think it's easier to say why I don't like something than why I do. Also, I'll generally leave a comment as a courtesy so I don't always go into an analysis of why I liked the image. There are certain artists here who get my attention for a variety of reasons. I wish I had more time to view and comment but - just like everyone else - real life means I don't see as much as I would like. I honestly do not have the time to surf the galleries but sometimes I will click on a few thumbnails at random.

Sam, I understand what you are saying. THe more you ay what you like though, the more you will find it or get it. It is kind of also like telling someone you love them . . . if you ad the Why - it is so much more powerful - and they really feel honored that you took the effort to express it. Maybe I am being hokey, or not explaining myself well . . . I just think "I like it because . . . " is much more honoring (and valuable) than just "Good job!".

Thats almost a thousand total views of your images. How can you say no one looks at them, hon?

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

I don't concern myself at all about number of views, or comments. IMHO the gallery is just a free place to display my artwork. if people look at it and like it great.

I just uploaded an image 7 hours ago, then collapsed in bed. Woke up, exitedly opened my email checker lookin for Gallery Comment ebots. Got 3 ebots that id been added to peoples favorite artists lists, 1 ebot that one of those three members had also added the image to thier fav images list. Looked at my gallery, and the pic had 138 hits, no comments, no rankings, but this is the first time ive been added to three fav artists lists in a day! Seems odd, but im happy to see the ebots about the favorites additions :) Logan
