(originaly posted by mistake in the merchants forum) I was just reading the from Daz3D, and I'm not sure if I am understanding it correctly as I am very tired, but I have been working on some long haired morph targets in Poser (using magnets) for my Smart Hair model which I want to put in the free stuff section and was wondering if unscruplous people would be able to extract the geometry from them? Please excuse me if this is a stupid question - I thought I was ok by making them in Poser, but now I'm just confused, must be the dumb blonde resurfacing again - "down girl down!" Alla

You should be able to distribute the .hr2 file as long as it is referencing the original .obj file (requiring everyone to own the original) rather than containing the geometry within the .hr2 itself. Open the .hr2 for the hair in a text editor and you should hopefully see some language like this:
prop figureHair   {   storageOffset 0 0.652 0   objFileGeom 0 0 :Runtime:Geometries:hair:PonyTail.obj   }

If you do, you should be in the clear. On the other hand, if you see something about 'geomCustom' followed by several lines starting with 'v', then the geometry is inside the .hr2 and can be extracted into an .obj easily with a text editor.

Hope this helps.

Hey Alla! I just posted a request for hair similar to this one, do the bangs morph? It looks fantastic! Please let me know when you plan on posting this hair style. Morgan

I believe there's a freeware utility called Morph Squisher (?) that protects the original geometry. Also check Traveler's tutorial section over at MorphWorld. He has guidance about all things morph, including how to distribute them, as I recall.

Thankyou for the tips, I've had some sleep now so I'm a little more coherent! JKeller - unfortunatly my hair is contained in the HR2 file, so I can't distribute it like that. Thankfully though I've just downloaded Bushi's Morph Squisher, thanks for the heads up Gryffnn, and that is doing a great job of it. Morganza - Glad you like it :) I will be working on some morphs for the bangs today, although it already has lenght morphs built in. It is already avilable in my online store, although after reading your thread about the Xena hair, you'll be looking for a black hair texture which mine doesn't have, but I'll be working on that over the next couple of days and will post it in the free stuff section when I'm done.
