Subject: Hex and C5 Pro

Hate to ask this again, cause I know people have. But for those that are using C5Pro have you found Hex to really speed up modeling and work well w/ C5Pro? I ask because I am going to get Pro, but waited for the calm down and now I am playing w/ Hex...so much easier than Amapi. The Dynamic G is addictive, but there are other things I need to get and geesh it starts to add up.Been an awful year for me, so otherwise I wouldn't really care as much. I was thinking that C5Pro modeling would do for now. That's why I was looking for modeling tuts for C5pro w/ new tools. I liked Silo too, but demo expired before I really got too far. Hex seems to have some more features tho except topology was cool in Silo. I would like to see it be more cohesive w/ C5 tho.

Hexagon and Carrara5 Pro make an excellent pair. Even with the improvements in C5Pro, Hexagon is well worth having. No real working problems between the two --maybe some complain about finiky things---but the overall thing about Eovia is that they take heed of everyones comments and are not afraid to issue updates. (They don't wait a minimum time--they do it when it's obviously needed)

I was trying to see how the c5pro modeling actually compares to hex w/ the new features...most stuff is on the old VM which I didn't find too user friendly. I was wondering how much more user friendly the new vm is. I know it is better, but since I haven't seen too much modeling in it from people who know what they are doing...it is hard to compare. I am trying to weigh, the gains basically. So far I know dynamic geometry, symmetry, better ai support and the bridging tool seems the biggies, but I do wish taking the model from hex more easily into c5 was there...would think they would be working toward that.

I've never used the VM editor in Carrara because I use Amapi and Hexagon for editing. I export my models as OBJ into Carrara where I do all my texturing and rendering. Never any major problems using Hexagon with Carrara for me.

The VM in Carrara is now quite good and I use the VM modeler more than I ever have. Some of the VM functioinality and workflow has been ported from Hexagon. Hexagon is great - especially for organics. As a pure modeler, Hex has some controls that make complex models very easy to manage. Like Shonner, I used Amapi for my main modeler. Now, I'm a complete convert to Hex - it's very stable and fast to use. Now, I use Amapi only when building and modifying files for some manufacturing clients that use CAD and PRO E files. Amapi is an excellent program and offers features not in Hex or Carrara. I just don't need those features that often.

Had one little odd blip w/ the demo, but not a big problem. So much more intuitive to me than Amapi. I was walking thru some 3dxtract issues w/ it. Having trouble w/ ai, but probably me. Was looking for a summary low down on what hex can do. Most reviews I have found are pretty topical.

I wonder if the scale factor works in Hex commercial version. I've tried the demo and the scale factor did not work. I've been using Amapi Designer v7.1 were it actually works. It do not work in their latest patch, neither does it work in their Amapi Pro version either, according to a friend of mine who owns the Pro version.

If it worked, I would start to read the manual.

Can anyone confirm if the scale factor works in Hexagon? Mac or PC?

I haven't tried it. I leave OBJ import/export scale at 1.00 (using inch measurements) in Amapi Pro 7.51 and Hexagon 1.2. I disable auto-scaling in Carrara when importing. Then my models stay consistent while working on them.
