Subject: Making Fire

Hi all. When you click on OPEN, under Animation Tutorials there is the one on how to create fire. I've tried to re-create this animation on a brand new scene, added a Plain Primitive, selected the EcoSystem Terrain, gone to Add, and gone to various folders but Can't seem to add the Fire Animation. There is on in the Application/Temp folder but I can't add it. Can someone tell me how to do that Tutorial? Thanks, Philip.

Could it be that there is a light in the fire object? Lights can't be used in Ecosystems.

I just found this on "another" site: a link for a python script to use lights in ecosystems. http://www.aelfheim.co.uk/Vue/Demos/Eco-lights.htm Now, if only I could upgrade to V5I! Paul g

Ok, this is only a lookalike - it simulates lights in Ecosystems. There is a valid reason for the limitation with lights in ecosystems - imagine what would happen when you suddenly would have thousands and millions of lights spread out in a scene. Impossible.

Although I agree totally with you Walther, it would be nice if the option wasn't crippled, so those of us that just want to put 20, 30 or 40 lights in a scene were able to do so without aligning each one to an ecosystem object. I can see the other side of the coin - no end of complaints about OOM errors that E-on would have to wade through, but that is no real excuse to limit an artists tools. Cheers

Well, you've still got scatter and replicate or you could use the python script to align the lights to an eco-system of simple spheres with 'invisible' textures applied. -- Mark

Thanks for the Tutorial PaulG. If any of you have Vue Infinite, goto File > Open, click on Animations and then click on EcoSystem Fire. This is what I want to know how to do. Thanks, Phil.

I did not find the object either, but it is easily created on a billboard (alphaplane) that you can then use to populate the baseplane. The animated texture is present in bitmaps/animations (hint on how to set it on page 455 of manual). Also be sure to have the indeo codec from this link : http://www.free-codecs.com/Indeo_Codec_download.htm hope this could help Paul
